Sunday Sweets: Twilight

This week I've discovered that there are billions of Twilight cakes out there, most of which fall in the "regrettably hilarious" category. Granted, you can't expect fan cakes to be professional quality, but it did make finding the good Twilight cakes a bit of a chore. And then, most of the nice ones I found were one of two designs: either this...

See the little fork? Cute!
Others focused on the chess pieces from the latest cover, Breaking Dawn:

As always, if you know one of the bakers I don't have listed, please let me know!
And please, if there's to be any debate in today's comments, let it be over which cake is your favorite - not over the relative merits of the Twilight series, eh?

I wonder if I can talk the fiance into having a Twilight cake?!
Honestly, I think this is one of the worst "episodes" of "Sunday Sweets" to date. The cakes are okay, mediocre, a 5 on the 10-scale. Not amazing, which is what I like to see on Sundays here at CW. It's not your fault that no one cares enough to make awesome Twilight cakes though. And just for the record, no, I don't like Twilight but my dislike of the series/movie does not affect my ability to judge the cakes fairly. I don't like Doctor Who (sorry!) or WOW either but some of those cakes are absolutely gorgeous. (And I really have a dislike for WOW since the Hubby plays it all the time.)
The only good cake here is the first tier cake, and it's still boring. The picture cakes are just creepy and bad; Robert Pattinson is just creepy and bad himself.
What's the obsession people?! You "Twilighters" need to show some passion for what you love!

I guess I'm the only one here who thinks that first portrait cake just isn't all that impressive. It's loads better than the one that had Bella's hand hugely mannish (reminded me of the Man Hands chick that Jerry dated in that episode of "Seinfeld") though. That wedding cake is phenomenal though! I'm always impressed when people can do those amazing things in butter cream instead of fondant like some of the others on the list.
OMG Am watching The Graham Norton Show and he is featuring your site!
Not a fan of Twilight, but the cakes were pretty cool. All that black icing, though, looks very unappetizing to me. Am I the only one who finds that black and other dark colors of icing (reds, dark purples, etc.) taste nasty?
Melanie is way too old to have a Twlight cake.
I'm a big fan of your site and just wanted to congratulate you about the Graham Norton show!
Ooh, I want a chess cake now! (Not to be confused with chess pie.) I like the suggestion of Harry Potter cakes, too. Edward Schmedward, I'll take Cedric Diggory with buttercream frosting, plz.
I'm not a fan of these cakes at all... not because they're Twilight but because really they are all a bit wrecky looking! The stack of books one is alright. I do love the twisty Tim-Burton-looking trees on the fourth one, but what's the deal with that deformed gold heart?
I fully agree with the Anon who said that buttercream portrait looks like a kid's hooked rug - that's totally what I thought too!! hahaha
Wow, those cakes are so pretty they almost melted away a tiny bit of the disgust I have for the books. :P
The 5th is my faovirte--it's so cute!
Well made cakes.
I still hate vampires. Wussy, lame whiny love lorn Tiger Beat Vampires even more.
Bring back Nosferatu (and I do mean the original B&W movie), I say! Balding, rat-toothed anthropomorphism of plague and pestilence!
THAT is what a vampire is supposed to be.
Not some pretty-boy, overly love sick, Emo hearthrob who whines like his Elmo doll was just stolen. Pheh!
Next thing you know, Godzilla will be tip-toeing around Tokyo, afraid lest he wake his slumbering love-all the monsters are being turned into cheap teen romance icons.
Plus, a Nosferatu cake would be really cool.
I love the book stack cake. And I had to laugh about how many people managed to sneak in comments on how much they hated Twilight.
And are we ever going to get any Hugh Jackman/Wolverine cakes? Good or bad? I know we've had one comic Wolvie cake, but I'd love to see some Hugh ones :D
How fitting that you should post this on the first day of November! The New Moon movie has never seemed closer! Oh, and the green cake looks so very yummy.....In more than one way ;)
The first cake and the book cakes are so stunningly stellar.
I don't think these cakes are that great.
I haven't read "Twilight," and probably won't, so I'm only commenting on the cakes, not "Twilight."
If they didn't fit the "Twilight theme, I don't think these cakes would be on Cake Wrecks at all. They aren't horrible, but they aren't exceptionally good, either. The designs aren't all that creative, and the execution ranges from mediocre to pretty good (not great).
My cat just walked across the keyboard and typed, "009," which I take to be his rating of Twilight Cakes on a scale of 1 to 1000.
These cakes are actually good :)
Nice cakes, but I've always thought the covers of the Twilight books were a bit of a design triumph, so it makes sense that they'd translate well into cake.
As for the Pattinson portrait cake... it's good, but green icing always reminds me of the (Broadway) Peter Pan song... Hook's Tango...
"We'll cook a cake quite large
and fill each layer in between
with icing mixed with poison
'til it turns a tempting green..."
no. three one! love it!
i have not seen twilight yet. but i want to!
Awesome cakes! Any day w/ Cake Wrecks and Twilight together is a good day for me. I do believe, however, the green and black Robert Pattinson cake is from one of his actual pictures as his hair is a little more wild than in the movies. My guess is that it's him in Mexico but I know a more experienced Rob detective could pinpoint it. Yay Twi-cakes!
I have to say, I'm finding that blobby gold heart a bit wrecky. The composition of that cake is kind of top-heavy and distressing.
I love your site! The twilight cakes aren't as spectacular as some of the other Sunday Sweets, but they are pretty cool.
I came across your sight when it was featured on Yahoo's homepage. I love it! I've had to go back through every post and check them all out. I will never look at cakes the same way again :)
These are wrecks because of the subject.
Vampires DO NOT sparkle.
I've never read the books or seen the movies, but I thought most of these cakes were pretty cool!
The only one I didn't care for was the first portrait cake. Is it just me or did they make Bella look a LOT like Tracey Ullman?
wow, they are all great!
the one of rpatz looks just like him!
If only the reminder that people love Twilight and think it's cool to read and have their kids read didn't make me want to cry. Ah well, I'm sure the cakes at least tasted good
A pawn becomes a queen! I finally got that, and I like that series.
Haven't watched the movies, but the second one seems to have shirtless men and I like looking at those sometimes.
Also those cakes are pretty.
They are too pretty to eat though.
that portrait cake is actually pretty impressive
Meh.
Man... I don't like the Twilight movies, but I could definitely picture myself diggin' into a Robert Pattinson cake. That man is gorgeous.
no. NO. TWILIGHT NEEDS TO BE OBLITERATED. KILL IT WITH FIRE.
It's hard to like the cakes when the books are so horrible... >_>
How about some awesome POTC/Capt. Jack Sparrow cakes? I would surely eat me up some Jack Sparrow! Although Johnny Depp is mine, I'm willing to share him on cake (only.)
The golden heart doesn't make sense, and it's lopsided. Not so great to me.
The stacked books are great, but I don't understand the fork. And the feather is supposed to have red on it.
The rest are really good. The portrait cakes are amazing. Even if Edward is green.
I loved the Twilight series, and hope she does publish the last book someday (her work-in-progress was leaked onto the internet, and the ensuing mess killed her desire and inspiration to work on it).
These cakes are amazing! I'm a total Twilight Fanatic...(and I'm 30, so not just for tweens!) and I'd love to have one of those cakes at my party! Especially the stacked books with the lion and lamb on top!
I disappointed that you have 2 Twilight posts but no True Blood posts. Meh.
Never read the series but the stacked book cake is my favorite! The huge chess piece (is it a queen? I think it's a queen) is also quite remarkable. The apple in the first one is very, very shiny--I wonder if it's real!
The actual artwork on the others is very well done. The only one I'm not partial to is the green one. It's clever, but green is just not my thing.
Somehow, the prettiness of the cakes almost make me wish I liked the Twilight series. :/
Possibly because it is impossible to translate whiny into cake?
Am I the only one who thinks the guy on the green one looks like Orlando Bloom?
It would make my day if I had a birthday cake like any of those. :)
that portrait cake is fugly!
My favorite Twilight cake has to be the Twilight ice cream cake. Google it if the link doesn't show up, it's tongue in cheek and awesome :)

THANK you! The fiercely determined Twilight haters were getting a little tiresome.
Hey, the book ones even spelled Stephenie right! I wonder if she ever had any "Happy Birthday Stepheanie" wrecks growing up?
LOVE the stacked books! Thanks for the TWILIGHT Sunday Sweets---needless to say, I'm a fan - but I will agree that the series is not the *ultimate* vampire series. Anne Rice & LeFanu did it better. I agree that the sparkles are *out there*, but hell, I still love RPatz -he can bite me any day! [mmm-*thinks of RPatz feeding me cake...YUM*]
-Kat
Well, to be fair, these cakes tend to focus on the covers of the Twilight books (the best part by far of the entire series). The lion and lamb are misshapen, and the first portrait cake is pretty bad, but the first cake is gorgeous.
P.S. Golden heart? So not doing it for me...
WV: harch - a strict and unforgiving entryway
@snuzzle, LOL ice cream cake! plus I'm not sure why folks are begging for Harry Potter cakes, there have definitely been several posts about Harry Potter.
I don't know about twilight, but most of these cakes are gorgeous. Though I think that the green and black edward cullen cake is actually a wreck, what with the color scheme and all... I didn't know vampires got the flu? Or is that coming in the next book... "Edward? you're looking green! Did you drink that pig blood?"
The cake that would truly embody the glory of Twilight would be a sparkly belly cake full of strawberry jam and have a http://www.livingdeaddolls.com/archive/preview_merch.asp?main_id=ldd&sub_id=ldd-dol&name=Sheena&series=Living+Dead+Dollies&deathdate=N%2FA&chipboard=&dyk=Living+Dead+Dollies+Series+2+is+now+available+for+purchase+in+the+%3Ca+href%3Dhttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.mezcotoyz.com%2Fstore%2Fldd.aspx%3E%3Cb%3EMezco+Direct+Store%3C%2Fb%3E%3C%2Fa%3E.&msrp=%2426.00&ages=For+ages+15+and+up&description=Living+Dead+Dollies+are+back+with+an+entirely+new+body+sculpt+featuring+improved+articulation+and+lifelike+eyes.+Packaged+in+an+irresistible+crib+window+box.&product_id=ldd-dol-001&status=Coming+Soon&units=&title=Sheena&ai=0" rel="nofollow">living dead doll in the center for dental excision. Well, our Halloween this year was a strange one.
I won't say it was a non-event, but it went from being an entrenched tradition to...
well, let's say a scattering and a smattering.
