The Problem With Phone Orders

[answering phone] "Cakey Cake Bakery, Jill speaking! How can I help you?"
"Hi, I need to order a cake for my boss. We have a photo of him playing golf that we'd like to put on it, though - can you do that?"
"Of course! Just bring the photo in on a USB drive and we'll print it out here."
"Great, I'll bring it by this afternoon."
Later...
"Hey, Jill, what am I putting on this cake?"
"Oh, check the counter; I left the jump drive out for you there."
[calling from the back room] "Really? This is what they want on the cake?"
"Yeah, the customer just brought it in."
"Okey dokey!"
Believe it or not, this is a TRUE story: Elisabeth R. worked at the office in question. Besides, how could I ever make up something this good?

In all actuality, that's a very accurate rendering.

Well, at least instructions were sort of followed... and everything was spelled correctly. I'm still laughing!!!!!!!
I used to be in the military and I thought some of the people I worked for and with were really, really stupid. But I'm beginning to think that the people too stupid to even get into the Navy just go to cake school....
If nothing else, the boss will have a memorable birthday...that black icing will stay on his teeth for a week!
Oh the stupidity. That's brilliant.
Sometimes it's better not to the back story and thus let the ol' imagination run wild. In this case, it's perfect to have the back story.
Hope the boss liked jump drives as much as golfing...
This is awesome
Awww, that's adorable. :P
Thanks for the laughs today! Absolutely hilarious!
Sweet mercy.
*rolls around laughing* hehehehe. I love it. ^-^
I'd so get a cake like that on purpose for my husband. Though the border would have to be red...he's red gray color blind, and it would be funny as all get out.
wow, that drive is gigantic!
"No, No, thank you... I wanted a jump drive themed cake for my birthday! How'd you know?"

I used to be a baker for 13 years... odd early hours and little sleep - it does things to you. I have witnessed some absolute common-sense-fails, and had to try to fix them. Mostly spelling. Nothing this bad.
I'm just wondering WTF the other cake decorators were thinking? Did no one wonder, "Why is she still working on that cake? All she has to do is put it under the photo thinger and then add a border..." :p
Oh. my. The stupidity is hurting my brain.
That is FUNNY. I would have still totally bought that cake just for the laugh.
But, my boss has a good sense of humor and would laugh too.
That's either really funny, or really sad, not sure which.
Can't stop giggling.
... i'm speechless...
... do they let these people breed?...
*facepalm*
it's like a modern day amelia bedelia story... lol.
Well, at least the jump drive is pretty much centered on the cake.
Hey! Maybe when they cut the cake the boss' picture was on the inside!
I wonder how much data that cake can hold...
That is too funny!
Somebody is getting way too little sleep. Or else taking way too many pills.
That's hilarious! As I was reading the narrative, I was guessing that they would put up the wrong photo, but it's a nice rendition of a flash drive though.
To be fair to the decorator, I probably would have assumed the same thing, especially if I asked the order-taker in a disbelieving tone that the customer wanted THAT on a cake. At my husband's old job, a flash drive is actually something that the techies would probably have ordered on a cake.
What is it with these people?! Who would ever want that on there cake.
That's just amazing!
ok, i was expecting to see the actual flash drive stuck on the cake, so this isn't quite so bad. still...
Hahahahaha!!!! That is hilarious!!! I'm assuming the first "decorator" added the green border - for golfing, ya know - and then the second "decorator" added the....ummm...likeness. Classic.
WV: tumsych, as in this cake gave me a real tum(my)sych!!
In a sense, the cake world was spared another wrecky photo cake for an even more amusing one. Cakey Cake Bakery took one for the team!
What?! NO sprinkles? I'd return that sucker.
Good post. I needed a huge laugh to start off my Friday!
this is my new favorite wreck...EVER! SO FUNNY!
I SO needed to read that post this morning. Bless you!!!!!
Crying!!!
This... this is just... well, frankly, this is SPECTACULAR!!!
Flartus said:"...and she still PAID for it??? Great way to get fired!"
Flartus, honestly, you wouldn't pay for this? I would run back to the office, cake in hand, overflowing with glee and the desire to share the brilliance and hilarity. But then, I tend to have excellent luck when it comes to bosses and co-workers.
My friend the Geek Wizard would love this cake.
He'd love an iPhone cake even more (I sent him the link to the iPhone cupcakes).
But yeah, sometimes you just aren't supposed to take things literally.
This is why stupid people give me a migraine. Why didn't Jill just start over, since she knew what the customer really wanted? Great way to get business contacts!
OMG! I would have been crying from laughing so hard at the bakery.
Er...well, all things considered, it's a rather nice USB drive cake. xD Hopefully her boss had a sense of humour!
That is priceless. Hope the boss has a good sense of humor!
You know... that's actually a pretty good lookin' jump drive there.
I don't know...
Maybe the decorator decided this cake was a vast improvement over a cake with a photo of a middle-aged man in golf attire.
Can you imagine serving the requested cake at the office; "OK, who wants to eat the boss' (golf) balls?"
That takes someone special...really LOL!
Y'know, depending on the company, that might not be a bad idea. I mean, if they're in anything computer related, it's kind of fun, actually. I think I probably would've agreed to pay for it based on the story alone if I could get it to relate somehow. If I worked in, say the forest department, or at a golf course though, maybe not so much.
The thing is, even if for some reaason the story behind it wasn't true, I think the cake would still be a wreck.
But it's got to be true because why would anyone want a picture of a jump drive on a cake?
