What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Superhero Sweets For SDCC

This weekend many of My People, aka geeks, have converged on San Diego Comic-Con - and I'm not there. [sob]

BUT!

The rest of us can still look at awesome comic book cakes and dream, right?

(By Bella Cakes)

Look at this gorgeous Wonder Woman cake! LOOK AT IT.

***

Ok, you can stop now.

Because na na na na na na... BATMAN!

(By Nayrunia)

LOVE this design; so much impact for a (relatively) simple silhouette.

But maybe you prefer the Dark Knight a little less... dark?

(By Lindsay Colasurdo)

Pretty piles of punchy pink, Batman!

You know, this color combo is really starting to grow on me.

Here's a fun Hulk cake with some priceless reactions:

(By Cheri Ross Sarner for Icing Smiles)

I admire your restraint, Elijah; I'd be gnawing on Hulk's elbow by now.

Anyone else love Supergirl?

'Cuz you could totally use this cake for Supergirls OR Supermans (er... men):

(By &Sweets)

Oh! And did you know Groot has his own comic book now? It looks fantastic, just like this cake:

(By Aroma de Azucar)

And I love that Rocket!

If you're after more classic comic books, though, check this out:

(By 21 Cake Lane)

Awwwwesome. The colors, the ascending dot pattern, the perfect overlapping covers - it's ALL good.

And another classic: Wonder Woman!

(Baker unknown)

So wonderful.

(See what I did there?)

Not exactly a superhero, but you have to see this fun comic book/pop art cake, made entirely with buttercream!

(By fredbutt)

C'mon. How fun is this??

Yet another reason why geek weddings rock:

(By Exquisite Wedding Cakes)

Joker & Harley wedding cake.

And finally, a dreamy color combo for some of our fav superheroes:

(By Cake Me To Your Party)

...plus maybe a favorite villain? 'Cuz I like to think that's one of Harley Quinn's bombs on top. :)

Happy Sunday, guys! Hope those of you at SDCC are having fun!

My favorite is the Batman! The shadow effect makes the light really LOOK like light!!
(And, yes, Jen; I get your wonderful Wonderpun.)

Are those giant, droopy *toenails* on that cake? The Squire especially likes the Groot cake; I like the last one. So girly!

Lady Anne I thought exactly the same thing about melting toes! Looks more like a "wreck" than a "sweet" to me!

The Batman silhouette is my favorite - what a striking cake! The dripping fingernails cake actually reminded me more of the candy dots stuck on rolls of paper that we ate as kids (actually, I just saw some for sale at a farmers' market, who knew they still made them?).

My second favorite cake is The Hulk, not just for its amazing green power, nor for the wonderfully happy expression on the face of the Birthday Boy, but for its INCREDIBLE potential as a NSFW-or-kids wreck by a far-lesser talent!

#9 Is it Roy Lichtenstein's birthday already? And I forgot to send a card.

I thought it was droopy toes too!

July 24, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterKay

Yeah, I agree that even though the pop art cake is well done, I really don't want to eat melting, drippy toenails! It's like the pregnant belly cakes that are done skillfully but still--ick!

#2 may just be my favorite "Sweet" ever! So powerful. So menacing! My mind reels at the magnitude of genius it must take to make cake look menacing.

July 24, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterBlubonnet

That first cake is gorgeous. And the second one is so cleverly done!

July 25, 2017 | Unregistered Commenterhyphen8

Nah, the bomb is totally a Batman reference, stored right beside shark repellant. "Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb!"
