What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

The Sinking of De Mayo

One Week Ago:

"Ok, gang, Cinco de Mayo is coming up and we need cake ideas. Jerry?"

Jerry: "Uh... clowns?"

"I like it. Priscilla?

"Heads on platters?"

"Priscilla, according to Wikipedia this is a holiday that 'celebrates Mexican-American heritage.' C'mon."

"Brown heads on platters?"

"That's better.

"Daryl! Whattaya got?"

"Uh, how about a cactus... drying off with a tiny towel?"

"Oooh, edgy. Pat?"

"I dunno, maybe a hat? Or one of those chips and salsa serving dishes?"

"Yes! Keep 'em guessing. Excellent.

"And I've saved the best for last, because Phil, you always wow us. SO. What've you got?"

"Well, I thought I'd bring in something authentic, while still keeping the overall design accessible to the masses."

[stunned silence]

"Did... did you just stick a taco shell on one of our old birthday cookie-cakes?"

"Yes."

"Everyone grab a taco shell. We have work to do!"

Thanks to Matt J., Sarah D., Trayce C., & Roxanne M. for giving us something to taco 'bout.

I think the cactus one got it right. It says; Cico de Mayo. All those bakers qualify as "sickos".

Because everyone wants to be known as the decapitated clown ethnicity.

@Mindy1: According to Google, that would be "Que mierda. If correct, I think it would be an appropriate response. Or maybe these people would better understand "Que mide" ("What does it measure?"), "Que miras" ("What are you staring at?") or even "Que miedo" ("Spooky").

@Mindy...wtf = qed (or que demonios, is the closest I could get, thank you google :).
@sendingintheclowns, YES. I saw it, and wish now I did not. Guess what song is now an ear worm? Again. I'm having PTSD (Post traumatic skating disorder...performed to that song for an ice show in my youth, hated that song ever since). They say humming the theme to Jeopardy will erase the ear worm. I shall try that. I just hope there is not a Jeopardy cake to come along as a wreck.

Yeah May 5th celebrates a minor victory of the Mexican army over the French army. As I recall, they pretty much lost that war, which is why they had better sense than to really celebrate it themselves. It took the USAmericans to take it as an excuse to party.
It was a great and improbable victory against the odds in and of itself and sure helped the North in the Civil War, because otherwise, the French would have had the leisure to support the Confederacy and history might have been very different in North America.

The idea of putting edibles inside a folded tortilla is Mexican. The Aztecs and their kin were eating tacos with all sorts of stuff in them (including insects and algae). The hard shell taco is an American invention, though.

The first thing I thought of when I looked at the "clowns" were the Trove characters. Their hands are detached from their bodies, and their arms just don't exist.
*squints at screen*
Nope, still can't see any arms.

Great. Thanks to the hat/salsa dish cake, I now have "We all live in a Yellow Submarine" as an earworm...

Well one of those clowns looks like it has a knife lol somehow the IT clown got stuck on there and wants off right away. Lol and a taco on a cookie cake.. what will they wreck next?

May 9, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

Rune, I see arms on the clowns, puffy white frosting arms, which is probably why you do not see them on a white-frosted cake. It does not make them any better as Cinco de Mayo decor.

What was used to adhere the taco to the cookie? What is that brownish purple stuff?
