What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Ya Think?

One faces many questions in today's bakeries. But one in particular most of all:

"What's this?"

"They're puppy dogs, of course!"

"Someone order a Star Trek cake?"

"That? That's a cheerleader, hon. See the pom-poms?"

And last, but never least:

"Believe it or not, it's supposed to be bacon."

Yep. Our thoughts exactly.

Thanks to Kelsey D., Claudia S., Katusha, Melanie H., & Kelley J. for bringing home the... well, that.

If the "dog" in cake #1 mated with the "cheerleader" in cake # 3, you might just get the "baby" in cake #4.

I've never seen a cheerleader skirt with teardrop spangles. That could be dangerous!

Of course, I've never seen poo bacon, either.

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

Love the reaction shots! And the snarky comments, of course.

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAngelaS

They finally have black widow on something and it's the wrong franchise!

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterPrincess Usako

😳 Cake #1 yeeep!!
And Cake#2 that "Star Dreck" cake is not logical.

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBigg3469

Personally, I think the baby in cake #4 looks like Odo on Star Trek: Deep Space 9. But then I have been binge-watching all 7 season over the last few weeks.

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterKymster

Most excellent post! I find myself with a similar look when conversing with my kids.

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMiss Paper

Why does the poo-bacon cake have to have my name on it?

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterKelley

Without commenting on the team choice, a dog log cheerleader seems, oddly, appropriate. ( And lest anyone take offense, i LOVE Wisconsin and some of my best high school friends were cheerleaders.) The baby just scares me...but i'd eat it. So great to see Spock! I thank that god-awful cake for giving us your well-chosen photo accompaniment. RIP Mr. Nimoy.

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered Commenters.marie

You'd have better luck convincing me that the cakes in #1 were Dow Scrubbing Bubbles rather than dogs.

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterWill

That baby's head looks like it's decapitated and sitting in a pool of its own blood. Yuck.

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterHeather A

The top cake is obviously supposed to be a Tribble...Right?

"Why does my puppy dog have breasts? And tentacles?

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJMixx

Is it just me, or does that real dog resemble John Travolta?

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLady Anne

The only thing that would make this post better is if you had a candid photo of Kevin Bacon's reaction to that last one.

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDegera

This is even funnier than usual! Good reaction shots.

I still think the "dogs" are the worst. What a bad case of eyeboobs.

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterClassic Steve

Bacon one is the least worst one. The other cakes O_o

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

If that baby (the real one) spoke, why do I think it would sound just like Yoda? "Not, you did. Hmm."

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJust Andrea

And yet, I kinda love the Green Bay Packers cheerleader with the unfortunate armpit hair.

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterranger

Perfect reaction shots! I was totally prepped for the classic "Picard facepalm" but that Spock is priceless. Too bad the cakes weren't.

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLaura P.

ranger - You know that dyed armpit hair is a thing in 2015. The cheerleader one fits perfectly with that trend.

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered Commentersue

If you're myopic and squint real hard, the StarTrek cake looks like someone tried to make a StarGate. So then we have three mashed franchises for the price of one!

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBlogtodiffer

Sceptical dog is sceptical...

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterStiria_the_fast_one

It is post-digestion bacon, I don't see how you don't see that! In fact, I'd rather we didn't see it at all anyway!

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterPhoebe

Baby cake = Ripley's work is not done!

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDeborah

That baby cake ... It took me a while of looking at it to figure out exactly what it was popping out of, I thought well it has flowers and ladybugs, maybe a weird looking picnic basket, and it's on a hotdog with ketchup. (Don't laugh, you know people have made stranger things.) But then you realize what is Really supposed to be happening there. My thoughts-" oh no, that's not ketchup, that's blood! It's a chest burster!" I really think Aliens would have been a lot more creepy if that baby came out!

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterPinkperelandra

I agree, Spock, horrible cake with cheap, tacky flotsam, but Trekvengers totally needs to happen...somehow.

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterpikkewyntjie

@pikkewyntjie, I came on here specifically to welcome Thor to Star Trek TOS, and see that you've beaten me to it. I'm sure that hammer will come in handy on many missions through the galaxy. I've heard they're adding a raccoon to the crew as well, and cheerleaders with green armpit hair.

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterFM

My friend's mom just ordered a cupcake cake for my friend's birthday!!! What do I do?!?!?

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterNight Rose

Spock HAD to make that face while looking at the Green Bay Poo-Packer. It was only logical.
=^-.-^= (R.i.p.)

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

The first one looks like fancy pacman ghosts to me. Like the ghosts are headed to junior prom.

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSarah Beth

Cake #1: Hey, doggies, eyes up here. Yeah.

Cake #2: This is a first. I've seen Trek/Wars confusion, but this has got to be the first time someone has stuck Avengers characters in Star Trek. Transporter accident, maybe?

Cake #3: If I squint, it looks like Mr. Bill on game day.

Cake #4: Baby? Baby Potato Head, maybe. (Did they ever make that? They should.)

And finally, Cake #5: Bacon was not my first thought when I saw that. I'll be polite and say peanut butter. Yes, that's it, two big smears of peanut butter across the top of the cake.

Love all the reaction shots! Especially the baby!

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterRoxy Random

The first picture is This and That, twins born to Itt and Margaret following What.
Pugsley ate them shortly afterwards.

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterEoin

Night Rose, you know what to do -- stay calm, take a picture of it and send it to CW!

August 3, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDeeja

Oh man I don't think I have laughed so hard than I did seeing these. Holy cow especially the bacon one. Maybe wreckerators have never seen bacon. Ever. Lol.

August 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

I feel that a Star Trek/Avengers mashup is now required.

[Dramatic pause]

Well, Internet, it appears you have your orders. Make it s...hmm? Google? BELAY THOSE ORDERS!

[tapping awkwardly on phone screen] Starrr Trrrek Aveng...ah. Yes. YouTube. Well, there you go then...Huh, most of these are quite crap. This has just been a massive waste of time.

Everyone! Carry on with what you were doing before this mashup nonsense came about. If you need me, I'll be on the holodeck, aka binge watching Netflix.

August 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDonnaB

I did not see the Welcome Baby cake as having the baby on it, I rather saw the welcomer - a gnome guaranteed to cause nightmares for the little tyke for decades to come.

August 4, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAlison in Indiana

One of those cakes looks like a weird crossover fanfiction. It appears the Avengers and several communicators from Star Trek are being hurled through the Stargate? What will happen when Thor meets Thor?!

August 6, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCavy

Those "puppy dogs" look more like the McDonalds fry guys from the 80's-90's commercials.

August 6, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBeth

O.M.G. ! The photo of the dog nearly made me wet myself but the baby really did me in! The baby on the cake looks like it has been charcoaled... And what can I say about that cheerleader... Wh..? wh.? Is it a bear buried under burning grass? With pompoms of course...
