What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sure, Just Write That Anywhere

I'd ask you how you feel about this, Krystal K., but it's written all over your face.

[bowing]

Uh thank you. Thankyouverramuch.

Thank you for using our Amazon links to shop! USA, UK, Canada.

Note from john (the hubby of Jen): A couple of years ago, Jen and I decided to take Wednesdays off. We write four new posts every week and a new Sunday Sweets and, to be honest, that's surprisingly hard to do. Add to that Epbot and emails and projects and there just aren't enough hours in the day. So, we decided that we had two options: we could either leave Wednesdays empty or we could put up a really old funny post.

We figured that since many of our readers are new and may not have read a thousand posts back, we would choose our very favorites from four or more years ago and put them up as a Wreck Replay. And that's what we do. Every Wednesday. For about two years now. I know this is dissappointing to some of you but believe it or not, we're just trying to make you smile. If it bothers you, maybe take Wednesday off. Go check out The Blogess or Awkward Family Photos. And when you come back on Thursday, we'll have a brand new post waiting for you. As always, thanks for reading and Wreck On! -john

All ok in Jen & John land? Cuz, repeats really hurt my brain (I just know I've seen it before...).http://www.cakewrecks.com/home/2011/6/2/sure-just-write-that-anywhere.html

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterj.e.b.

We're gonna need a bigger cake.

=^-.-^=

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

Well, at least they didn't put the statement about "Love" a few inches higher.

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSusan

They should have wrote it through the middle to hide those cracks in the edible image!

Also...what on earth does that say across the top? Hoppy (music note)OC birthday?

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterGirlNamedCorrie

Oh common sense...where art thou?

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

You'd think a sensible baker would have written over the bottom of the picture, not the top. But then, a sensible baker wouldn't have landed themself on Cake Wrecks...

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCallista

OR... They could cover up the cracks in the image with the writing... Just a thought...

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterBeckerby

@Bigg3469: Would you rather have wrecky or logical, here? You can't have both. (What birthday or anniversary IS that, btw? "21rd", or "2jnd"? I want to make sure I send the appropriate card....) =^~.-^=

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered Commentersendingtheclowns

Seriously, how does this happen without anyone noticing! You'd think there might be coworkers who mighostt step in! www.catholickidsbulletin.com

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterTheresa

Epic fail. Common sense would've been to not write on the faces.

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

I'm just... Well... What the??? Where is the common sense?

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJenn123

You ever scribble out the faces in your yearbook of the people you really didn't like? Maybe the friend-turned-bully that made fun of your stupid haircut, like, all through 6th grade (that was an awkward time, okay? And bangs were supposed to be cool, but my mom never could cut them so they poofed just right!) or that skankho that stole your boyfriend that one time?

I'm really getting mixed messages from this cake, I don't know why...

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDonnaB

maybe the guy had a huge zit the baker was trying to sneakily cover up? oooh. maybe the lady in this photo is the baker's son's ex-girlfriend. a case of revenge by cakewreck?

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered Commenteret

We love you, we just don't want to look at you.

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJust Andrea

You can repost as much and as frequently as you like, since all the posts are hysterical. I suspect that, like me, many of us out here spend time on our own going back over historical posts, just to relive the joy.

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterNanalettie

My 8 year old niece writes nicer than that. And never across anyone's face. Maybe the wrecker was drinking, got jealous, and decided she didn't like seeing happy people.

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLisa

I have been a Cake Wrecks reader for quite a while now, and even though I've seen almost all your posts, I totally appreciate a repeat chuckle from your wrecky replays. Thanks for keeping us laughing!

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterCarrie

I don't mind the reposts and I don't have time to go back over the old ones. I just want a laugh and old jokes are always better than new ones.

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterShirley

Thoj, you don't owe us any explanations. I've been reading for years but I miss days here and there, and I haven't seen this particular wreck before. I wouldn't have known it was a repeat until I read your Note! Keep on Wreckin'

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterDegera

Just wanted to voice my support for the Wednesday repeats. Nothing wrong with replaying some of the awesome cake wrecks of the past . . . besides, y'all do so much to entertain us, we'd be greedy to demand even more.

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterPernicious

Could've at least covered the crack.

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered Commentermatt

When I discovered this site, it took me awhile, but I read every back post. And honestly, I very rarely ever see a repeat post that I remember!

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLaurie

Are people really complaining over reposts? Unbelievable! I also didn't remember seeing it before. Besides, who gets upset over seeing something funny again? Keep on doing what you're doing!!

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterGail

Wow, I've been reading Cake Wrecks for at least 6 years and I do NOT remember that cake! So, no harm no foul on doing WayBack Wednesday....

Thanks for the funny!

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterKristin

About Wednesdays... Just keep doing what you're doing! If that gives you the break needed to keep doing Cakewrecks then I'm all for it :)

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterKimberJ

Seriously y'all, they've been doing Rewreck Wednesdays for TWO YEARS!!! Stop @$^&# posting comments about the repeated posts on Wednesday and maybe go back to school. You clearly need it.

June 17, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterK

Who cares if we've seen it before? A lot of us are getting older and we'll have forgotten, or else be so pleased that we remember it that we'll howl for hours! That was a doozy of a wreck, maybe brains were expensive that week.

June 18, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterJoanne S.

Enjoy your days off. We will enjoy the reruns!

June 18, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

Enjoy your day off! You deserve it. Thank you for the reruns- it is good to relive the laughs, and since I'm a stay at home mom, I often have forgotten the originals anyway!

June 18, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterRikki

I'm still pretty new to CakeWrecks, and Wayback Wednesdays are fine with me...or Rewreck Wednesdays, whatever you call them. And I don't need to go back to school--I just wasn't aware it has been going on for "TWO YEARS!!!!". I just want to voice my support for whatever you decide to do.

Thanks much for all of the laughs--they got me through my recently completed Advanced Patisserie and Display Cakes class....but don't ask for a picture of the wedding cake for the final. It looks nice, but it doesn't fit into Sunday nor is it a wreck. Now the croquembouche--that was a wreck!

June 18, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterMary Kay

Hi john (and Jen)

I've been a huge fan for years now, and while I did notice the occasional repeat, it never sunk in that you were doing it every week, for the simple reason that I didn't remember them. It's hard to remember absolutely everything you guys have ever posted, and I'm always entertained - even by ones I remember seeing before. Enjoy your Wednesdays, guys, and here's hoping you've nipped a reposts-complaint-Epcot in the bud.

June 18, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterWolverine Girl

I've been reading this for years and didn't the replay Wednesdays didn't click at all! I don't mind seeing repeats at all - if I've seen them, they make me laugh again. What DOES annoy me is when people complain about them in the comments... So enjoy your days off, you guys deserve it!

June 18, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterSusanKD

I'm sorry that you felt the need to justify taking Wednesdays off. You have been making me laugh every day (and yes, on Wednesdays too, even though I HAVE read thousands of posts back) for four years. In fact, it was a Sunday Sweets post that made me very first decide 'I want to do that!' and set me off on a career of cake decorating and teaching and a veteran of seven Sunday Sweets posts.

But wait. I just accidentally made that all about me, when it's all about you and your very special brand of awesomeness. I apologize on behalf of anyone who has seen fit to complain that you do this nonsense for free four days a week and round up the best cakes for us all to love on Sundays.

I would not be where I am without you, and where I am is pretty damn fabulous. So thank you. x

June 18, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterLesley

Well I don't recall this cake but oh my gosh what on earth possessed the baker to do this? Lol blue teeth for everyone!

June 19, 2015 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

It occurs to me that people who complain about rerun posts are probably not people who would buy the Cake Wrecks books, because those are all, in a sense, reruns. Me, I like reruns. Memory like a sieve. I remember this one, but there's interest in seeing what new takes people can have on wrecks, without having to go back through the old posts every so many months to see if there's something new added in the comments.

June 19, 2015 | Unregistered Commenterbob

You guys deserve Wednesdays off! That still gives us 5 new (longer) posts every week. I just glad you're still doing this after so many years. Thanks for making me laugh and, on Sundays, ooh and aww.
