What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

WHAT is Yoda saying? "Well, you... "

HELP!

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterWho?

These cakes are so gorgeous, but does that first one have a small metal hook holding the cow up?! I'm seriously hoping the moon and cow are a non-edible topper on the cake.

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered Commenternormajean

I had to check out "Cakes by Beth" to understand why Yoda has a beak.. in case you also are not a smart phone gamer it's a mash-up with Angry Birds!

I love that Zebra's grin. Well done, Sharyn!

The problem with any of these (but especially the TARDIS cake or the Discworld cake...) is that I wouldn't want to cut into it. Maaaybe I could bring myself to taste test an inconspicuous bit. Of course, if that first bite was very, very good, then I'd have to eat more to make absolutely sure. You know, for science.

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterCat

Discworld! Guess I'd always pictured A'Tuin as more of a land turtle but the sea turtle makes more sense.

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSouthern Fried Pugs

Nicely done Sharyn. I really love the "V" cake, but I'd also like to know what Yoda's cake says!

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMaureen

I am not one who squees, but that pigtailed astronaut made me come darn close. The V cake is so well done--glamour in the front, party in the back. Anyone else think that Zebra is the animal cake version of Joey Tribbiani? I can almost hear him saying, "How YOU doin'?"

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterAngelaS

Eeeekkkk love the ratatouille and lego cakes :D

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

Discworld!!
these are awesome

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNannie

I really loved the Discworld cake. I am a BIG Pratchett fan. You can even see Cori Celesti in the middle. Too bad that Ankh-Morpork would be too small to see.

The Tardis cake is perfect. I almost expect to see Tom Baker poking his head out of the door.

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered Commentercatspaw66

Love these! My Whovian son is going to flip over the Tardis cake!!!

P.S. I think Yoda's cake says "Well, You Have Done".

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJulieGartung

I LOVE the TARDIS cake! I want one!

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterdenise

I have to share this with all the Whovians here. Have you ever seen the Wibbely-Wobbely Timey-Warpy stuff?

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterOlivia

Thank you all Pratchett fans! When this client called me and told me what he wanted I nearly squealed, as I am a huge Pratchett fan too. I did my best to use the text to render A'Tuin as described. One of my Favorite cakes to this day. Come check out some of my others on my website/FB. XXOO - Heather, Art2Eat Cakes

Please, please, please publish the whole alphabet as a picture book.

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterEmma

That Discworld cake is amazing! And makes me want to start rereading them...

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterClaire

WIBBLY WOBBLY TIMEY WIMEY! Thank you for that

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterEmily

Yeah, the TARDIS is fantastic!!

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterConnie

Since when does Yoda have a beak??

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterdiddleymaz

I would honestly smack anybody who DARED cut into that Ratatouille cake! What a wonderful creation! And the Discworld cake, and the...Oh, I going into overload!

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLady Anne

I second the idea of making this an ABC book. I'd buy one for my classroom!

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterMarnieB

I've been asked to visit a local kindergarten class for their school's Everybody Reads Day (I'm proud to be recognized for my ability to read at a K-1 level!) If you could just get this alphabet book published and delivered to me by Tuesday, I'd really appreciate it. So would the kids!
I also wouldn't mind receiving any one of these cakes...

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

Wow. Such a treat! I look at this page when I take a break from college homework. My favorite is the Tardis. Or - the Owl. Or the Lego wedding cake...or maybe the Zebra...oh wait - the Ratatouille....

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDee

A is for Adorable, B is for Beautiful, C is for Cute, D is for Delicious...
Now I know my ABC's,
May I have a small slice, please?

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered Commentermel

I'm very glad someone explained about Yoda's beak because I neither have a smart phone, nor am I a gamer. Wonderful cakes, as always- loved the Lego cake and the Discworld cake. But that Ratatouille cake is simply astonishing. I am just awestruck. Wow- doing a cake of that scale, and all that detail- wow. Wonder how long that took?

June 1, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterakathleen

@Southern Fried Pugs - not only does it make more sense, in British English, there is no such thing as a land-turtle - that would be known as a tortoise. So in referring to A'Tuin as a turtle, there's no doubt Pratchett is referring to something akin to the water-dwelling creature. (just thought I'd weight in, cos I was like "what the hell is a land-turtle?!")

On an unrelated note...OMG dat Lego wedding cake... love love love.

Kickstarter campaign for the ABC Book of Sunday Sweets? I am there!

June 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLindaS

Yoda looks like he has the beak of an owl.

June 2, 2014 | Unregistered Commenteremmiehawk

<clapclapclapclapclapclapclapclapcappityclapclapclap>

Awesome work, Sharyn. And all the bakers, of course. Just awesome.

June 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJoan

LOVE that owl. Just LOVE it...

June 2, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterBea

AAAAAAAAA!!!!

I love them all (really! LOVE) but the meerkat sitting on the Zebra's butt looking into the binoculars is probably my fave. Understated hilarity.

The pinwheel cake is a terrific idea for someone who isn't yet a master-class baker - not difficult but really really pretty.

Sorry for my silence these past few months - I took over a new job and it leaves me NO time to look at the interwebs (or eat, or visit the ladies' room) and I've missed you all!

June 2, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterkrunchifrog

I missed you too, krunchifrog.

June 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterHaiku Joy

Yes, Yes! a cakey alphabet book would be so awesome. I would support it on kickstarter. Pleeeze, Jen?

June 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSiouxz

OMG, the Discworld cake is awesome! Terry Pratchett would be so proud!

June 3, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTurbo86

I'm somewhat concerned that Yoda looks more like a green furby.

June 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterWrenn

LEGO CAKE OMGORSH

June 5, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterStoich91

"Uncomfortable this position is Yes."
Yoda Bird

Love that cake! And the Ratatouille cake is so "manifique"!
