What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Absolutely Hystorical!

Cake Wrecks presents:

Famous Wreckerators of the Past!

Shakespeare:

To b or not to b, that was the question.

Ivan Pavlov:

I don't know the dog's name, but something here is ringing a bell.

Count Dracula:

Yes. Yes you do.

Pandora:

I haven't even opened the box, and I've already lost hope.

Thomas Edison:

It just came to me in a flash.

 Schrödinger:

Maybe the cat isn't alive OR dead; it's one of the living dead.

TAKE THAT, SCIENCE.

And finally...

Sigmund Freud:

Because sometimes a cigar is just an amputated finger phallus.

Thanks to Paula D., Carolyn F., Lyzz H., Elaine T., Carrie S., Suzy F., and Angela Z., who have never felt less cigar envy in their lives. (Right there with ya, ladies.)

I know it's old...and obscure. So it's perfect.

Dream Weaber by Gary Wright, 1976 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgCWgfwlk0M)

I just closed my eyes again
“Cause my dog looks like slime mold
And my cat has chewed upon electric wires
I have given up all hope

Oh oh, dream weaber
I beliebe you can save me from these cakes
Oh oh, dream weaber
Please do whatever magic that it takes
Take away that amputee
Maybe then my mind can think
I’ll come up with some really great ideas
Thought-bulbs colored with ink

Oh oh, dream weaber
I beliebe you can save me from these cakes
Oh oh, dream weaber
Please do whatever magic that it takes

Haha I thought at first those were ducks' heads not lightbulbs!

So is the baker of the first cake a Justin Bieber fan?

November 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

I KNEW that cat was one of the walking dead!

November 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKaren

There's a Justin Bieber joke somewhere in that first cake.

Oh myyyy D:

Sadly, I remember that song from high school. I didn't like it, but my brain still retained it, AUGGGGH!

Cake # 2- Flying Monkey having a BAD hair/ fur day!

#6- Shades of Bloom County and Bill the Cat...Bill the Cat for President 2016!!! Does anyone else remember Bloom County? The eighties...? Okay, so admittedly I don't remember MUCH of the 80s, but I DO remember Bloom County...unless it was all a dream in Dallas.......

Looks like Pandora's box could use a shot of penicillin.

November 24, 2014 | Unregistered Commenterjackwire

@SuBee, you never cease to amaze me.
I also can't believe that song is THAT old. I remember when it came out and I'm only 21 years old (I think).

On the "bright" side, Wreckerator #5 has spelled "Congratulations" correctly. (On the bright side, see what I did? Get it? Oh, never mind...)

November 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKay

What no "gift wrapped poo" comments for the last one?

November 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterDelphine

For 'VaBeach alemaP' - I miss Bloom County - still (at age 43) have a stuffed Opus on my dresser! Did you ever see A Wish For Wings That Work? Best Christmas special EVER!!!

November 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterLori T.

@VaBeach alemaP: Yes, I do remember Bloom County. One of my all-time favorites!

When I saw Pandora, first thing that came to mind was the online radio service. I thought: is that really their icon? SMH. . . . .

And those light bulbs. They will save tons of energy because they'll never fit in any light fixture I've ever seen!

November 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

Look's like someone put ribbon over a mold experiment.

November 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSomeone

@Lori T: It's not Christmas for me until I watch "A Wish For Wings That Work"! Did you know that an uncredited Robin Williams is the voice of George, the kiwi who misses "my Dolores"?

Although I still wonder what an ailertooter is...

November 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSaraCVT

that cat cake seems more Herbert West than Schrödinger...

@VemaBeach, I have a stuffed Bill the Cat doll! Ack! Oop!

Sharyn, I live in a very small town. Our FM radio station only plays about 20 songs, I swear, and has been playing the same damn 20 songs since at least the 1970s. Unfortunately, Dream Weaver is one of them. Gaaaah!!! Liked your version though!

November 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

Whoops! Sorry, I meant to direct my comment about Dream Weavers to SuBee, not Sharyn! Sorry ladies!
I'm apparently a comment wreckerator today! Oh, the shame!

November 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterJodi

So, I don't know if these would have been half as funny this am as they are now… after a lovely concoction on bourbon and amaretto. And lemon juice.

The cigars are weird.

piff.

I also thought of Bill the Cat. I miss Bloom County

November 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNancy

I still have my Opus and Bill the Cat. I hug them while singing long forgotten songs of the seventies.
Life is good!

SuBee, the original is one of my favorite songs EVER! So thanks for your post.

Pear Pimples for Hairy FIshnuts!!!! (I miss Opus -- Bloom County debuted my first year of college.)

November 24, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

@ Lori T; TLC; Jodi and Nancy- Oh my gosh, I just watched "A Wish For Wings That Work" I about died laughing, so totally typical of Bill...and Opus was fantastic. "ALBATROSS, she left me for an ALBATROSS!!!" oh man, that was so funny. And the bit where Bill coughs up the furball in the midst of the ducks had me rolling. It's just how I imagined Bill would sound. I can't believe I had never seen or heard of it before. Thanks for mentioning it, was a great laugh. Now I think I'm going to link it to my FB page so that all my friends can crack up too. I think it is probably funnier if you are familiar with the original comic strip and it's characters, so my FB friends may not find it as funny as I do, nevertheless, still going to share it.

Thanks again folks!

I will never look at someone smoking a cigar in quite the same way again without giggling lol. As for that so called present..it looks like someone left it out in the rain for months and now it is a gift of moldy surprise for the recipient lol.

November 25, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterArlene Marie

Those light bulbs are half decent. They don't look like something else, and very colorful too.

November 25, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterThelma

No. 2 is a poo-dle

November 26, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterNobodee Home

The present actually looks to me like a hunk of pepperjack cheese decorated with salami. Don't know what the green frosting would be though...
