What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Christmas Cheer

OK, team, let's see some holiday spirit!!

*ahem*

[waving pom-poms]
Give me an R!

"R!"

Give me an H!

"H!"

Give me an A!

"A!"

Give me an S!

"S!"

What's that spell?!

"MERRY X-MERRY!"

[hip sashay]
Uh-huh, uh-huh, UH-HUH!

Now gimmie a G!

"G!"

Throw it back in!

"N!
"Wait, we mean G!"

Got any extra Ls?

"YUP!"

Now just go nuts!

"Ecky ecky ecky pakang ZOOM boing erumferzerserestibleser... "
[trails off into confused mumbles]

[forward somersault into full leg split]

WAHOOO!!
Go marry, Go marry! Go! Go! Go marry!

[collapses into chair]

Ok, gang, take five.

I think my eyes are bleeding.

Well, no matter HOW you spell it, have a Merry Christmas, everyone!

Thanks to Abby, Jennifer S., Susan R., Christopher F., Kerri P., Catherine P., Jessica F., Kae B., Mel A., and George for spelling it out for us.

I do wonder about the state of our education when I see things like this.. :(

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a properly-spelled, un-wrecky Christmas cake!

Or pie. Or brownies. Or all of the above, as in my house. (Nom nom nom!)

And now for something completely different...my New Year's resolution is 1920 x 1080.

I am now going back to bed after having been awakened in the wee hours, not once, not twice, but thrice, by LOUD little urchins eager to peruse their Christmas goodies. Finally agreeing to 5:30 am, I did not sleep well and want some sugary dreams of my own still. Good night and thank you.

Merry Christmas any way you write it!

Maybe the decorator of the "Happy Hollidays" cake is a Matt Holliday fan? (Matt is an outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals.) Merry Christmas to the Cake Wrecks crew! Thanks for all the hilarity (and cake wrecks) you bring us all year long!

Thank you for the Christmas cheer!
And thank you for the long bout of laughing out loud this morning.
Merry Christmas to all!!

Thanks for the laughter inducing posts. Merry Christmas to The CW Team!

I think we found the true origin of the War on Christmas: atheist bakers! Doing this on purpose! It can't be that so many are doing this accidentally... right? RIGHT?? :(

December 25, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterlz

Merry Christmas and here's to another year!

Marrie Chrastmox, everybody, and a Hapy Nww Yore!

December 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAirrider

clearly, these decorators are not men of letters....

Merry Christmas, or Merry Wednesday if this is not Christmas for you... or as it says on the cover of the second Cake Wrecks book, "Happy Hole Days," but in every case, I wish you peace, love and laughter....

It looks like the last wreckerator was gong for something healthy. Prunes and a dried apricot? Great stuff!

December 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterJoel Polowin

Your eyes are bleeding, you're prune-faced, and your ears have turned into mittens. Perfect! You're officially in the Christmas spirit!

Spelling aside, the third and sixth cakes are quite pretty. The rest should be reserved for those who have coal in their stockings.

Murray Crestpass tew awl uv yew.

Wait... are those.... prunes????

December 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSharon

And I heard him explain as he rode out of sight,
"We did the best we could with the elves we had. I mean, it's not easy this time of year. All of the educated elves are working for some fat (some say white,) guy who uses them to make smart phones and Xboxes and what have you. At least I'm employing the locals. All of this complaining is
just not right.

Have a happy, everyone!

December 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSuBee

Did I just see someone wish someone a Happy New Hore? What?

Almost daily I exclaim, (and todays' last image made no exception) "Dear God, what IS that thing?!"

Merry Christmas everyone! Thank you Jen and gang for all the laughs and coffee cleanups.

That last one turned me into a newt. I got better.

SHE'S A WITCH!!!!!!

December 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBADKarma

Oh my that last one is terrifying. That is like the Freddy of Snowmen. I'm not sure I can spell after seeing that.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas, CW Team!

December 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterKay

Nice Holy Grail reference!! One another note...just...why?

December 25, 2013 | Unregistered Commentercol

Ok, I can almost (I did say almost) excuse the misspelled words here and there on various and sundry cakes. But are you seriously trying to tell me that last THING was professionally created?

Where did anyone teach a decorator to use PRUNES (and obviously not dried prunes - but the kind like my mom used to eat, soaked in something or another) to brighten up a cake? And on further review, I'm not so sure that nose IS an apricot - it almost looks like one of those mini corn cobs (broken off) that you get in some asian foods.

That said, A very Merry Christmas to the CW crew and all the folks who post here. This is one of my favorite spots to visit for a smile, no matter how crazy the day may! You all rock!

December 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAddie

Maybe the heart wreck isn't a Christmas cake? Maybe Max is her ex and someone is trying to tell her to marry him?

Merry Christmas to all. Just about to have our 4th day of Christmas lunches. Oh my poor tum.

December 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSam

I just realized the things sticking out of that last... thing... are mittens, not ears! Somehow, that just makes it funnier...

Merry X-Merry Chistmas/Cristmas/Chritmas and Happy "Hollidays" to all! =-)

December 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSeabird

Technically, #6 is really only missing a apostrophe..."Season's Greetin's"
I mean, it could be from the South, and they's greetin y'all fer the season.

Merry Christmas to you, Jen and John (thoJ), the entire Cake Wrecks team, and all you wonderful readers and commenters! CW is my go-to daily stop on the interwebs - I'm not sure what I would do without it. Thanks for all the laughs, muffled snorts in my cubicle, and the hilarity which is routinely unleashed in the comments section. You all make every CW day a better day all around.

P.S. That last cake is sad and wrong on so many levels...

December 25, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAnne-Marie

Lmao at the poor snowman who is either crying or bleeding out its prune eyes. Yuck. Scary and doesn't sound too tasty either.

December 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterArlene

Love my daily wreck fix! Thanks for all the wrecks so far and a happy New Year to you and your team. Can't wait to see what wrecks 2014 will bring!

December 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterHeather

One of my favorite Christmas gifts: another great post from the CW team. Thank you for all the laughs, groans, chuckles, headshakes, snorts, & gag reflexes.

Hope your holiday has been going a lot better than that last fellow's - he doesn't look like he's having any fun at all. I'm guessing the baker was shooting for something edible that looked like chunks of coal, but dried prunes would've been better than stewed prunes (although still odd). That nose looks like it could be a chunk of sweet potato or maybe yam?

Merry whatever to the team and all the commenters, whether you "do" Christmas or not. Thank you for your contributions to this corner of the web. (Does something without a physical form have corners? Oh well.)

December 26, 2013 | Unregistered Commenterhyphen8

My 8-year-old called the last one "a deadly, zombie snowman"

December 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterBeckie B.

I always knew about the alternate spellings of Hanukkah/Chanukah/Hannukah, but I was apparently uninformed of the alternate spellings of Christmas/Chistmas/Cristmas/Christms/Chritmas...

December 26, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterSusana

I have to second the suggestion that Happy Hollidays is a play on the (completely legitimate) last name "Holliday."

Speaking as someone who had to endure the multitude of "Holliday" comments from people who thought they were witty (not that I'm bitter or anything...).
