What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Frog in Your Throat?

BAH DUN DUNT:

JEREMIAH WAS A BULLFROG

BAH DUN DUNT

She was a good friend of mine.

BAH DUN DUNT

I never understood a single word she said

'Til she croaked at five 'til nine.

(I guess that's not a very good sign)

Oh JOOOOY, I'm gonna hurl

AAAAALL my hairs just curled

Boy this looks like Jabba, or is it just me?

Ooooobiwan, help me.

BAH DUN DUNT

Ya KNOW I love the pastries

Love to have my fun

I'm a cake wreck buyer and a carrot rider

A straight hootin' chum of a pun.

I said I toadally love a good pun!

Oh JOOOOY to the world

ALLLL the boys and girls

Boy, how delicous can a frog cake be?

I faaaailed biology:

Thanks to Tim W., Megan J., Miranda M., Bethany, Ashley D., Vanessa H., Aslyn, Tamantha M., Vanessa M. for really killing the mood there at the end.

I throw my plastic tiara at your feet in awe.

joy to the froggies in the bakery
shock to you and me

Who knew there were so many occasions for froguesque confections? Was that one with the lips and plastic ice cream cones a Frogentine or a Mardi Frog? Maybe they meant to be amphibious about it.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDB

Eek, those were terrifying. The dissected frog made me shudder.

Not feelin' the joy!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMelanie

OMG - the little tongue hanging out of the last frog sent me over the edge. ROFL...

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commentersthnbelle

I am going to be singing that song all day now. Is this a regional thing to make cakes out of frogs? (or did I mean frogs out of cakes?) I get the kissing the frog prince, but is there a holiday that celebrates frogs or something?

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPeg D

There are no words.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJoan

Tinseled ice cream frog
not cake, but a Mardi Gras
parade float. Cake Rex!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHaiku Joy

That 5th one looks like Couchie from PeeWee's Playhouse. Maybe tastes like it, too

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterlaxmom

It would be amazing for someone to record this song, as I will now have it stuck in my head all day. (the CW version, of course.)

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterangela

Great! Thanks Jen, now not only do I want to get back to blacksmithing from your Epbot post, but now I have that song stuck in my head! Should make for an interesting day. . .

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAmber

Made. My. Day.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterErin

Wow! I'm completely forgotten now what an actual frog looks like! But I do have a great song stuck in my head now, so it's all cool. :)

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterShelly C.

I was "toadally" singing that out loud. Thanks for the sing-along this morning!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSharon's Edible Art

Great. Now I'll never get that song out of my head.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMissy

Gives a whole new meaning to "It's not easy being green!"

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBonny

Oh WOW. Especially that one at the end. Was THAT really necessary?? I mean, I didn't like Biology class anyway.

URG.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterChristine

OMG! My mom used to sing that song to me all the time when I was a kid! These cakes are HILARiOUS!! That dissection cake is sooo disgusting! I don't think I have ever seen that much green icing in all my life!! haha! Now, where's all the turtle cakes, LOL!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermichls629

I'd eat those cakes, but then there'd be a frog in my throat.

...first comment!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKatie

"A straight hootin' chum of a pun." Best. Lyric. Ever.

There's joy in the world, because there is CakeWrecks. Thanks for keeping us laughing (and gagging).

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBeverly Diehl

As a matter of fact, the one with the cattails actually looks pretty good. B ut that last one goes in the "Dead Baby" file! Yetch!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLady Anne

It ain't easy being green!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMamabear

Normally, I'd dissect the whole post and try to say something pithy, but today I think I'll just stick with

KERMIT FLAIL!!!!

(It's not easy being green...)

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSharyn

Fantastic!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHeather

I am laughing out LOUD here! Love this...

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKelley

Oh, if *ever* a post needed an audio version of it, this is the one! Come on and share your Jooooy with us!! We know you love to have your fun...BAH DUN DUNT!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterbassgirl

Thes second cake reminded me of this funny video I saw earlier in the week:http://www.peoplepets.com/people/pets/article/0,,20589819,00.html I never knew that frogs actually sat up like that!!!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJulie

number 6 looks like a sleestak

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterjoann

love love love...I laughed so hard I almost croaked.....

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRilekat

This is definitely one of the best song posts. And I'm not just saying that because my four-year-old adores this song and we have to listen to it all the time.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKara

Is it wrong of me to picture someone giving *JAZZ HANDS* everytime they sing Joooooooy?

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSuzieQ

I loved the new lyrics! You did a great job matching them to the song. And now I'll be singing that all day. (laughing)

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKristine M.

OH MY GOSH I SANG THAT WHOLE POST.
These are hilarious. Will be pinning/facebook posting this blog post ;)
Thanks! :D

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKaela

I actually love the little tongue detail on that last one! I wouldn't mind a cake like that... but then again, I do have a bio degree and frogs were one of the least icky things we had to deal with.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAngela

I adore frogs, so to my shame ,I actually liked a few of these but...#6 did immediatly bring to mind
Weird Science. "Lisa, change him back...he'll ruin Christmas!! " wreck on!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commenter4given

Kermit sings the blues
Froggy cousins in cake - sad
Will Kermit be next?

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterGrnEyes6

The last cake bears a suspicious resemblance to the frog I dissected in junior high school. It had no aorta. No wonder it was dead ...

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJules

Well played, Jen. Well played.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCookieD'oh

Fantastic post!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterramalama

Is it National Frog Day? You KNOW there probably is one.

#6 - what is sticking up out of the head?
#7 - I find kind of cute - at least it's not gross compared to the others.

Speaking of gross - gross anatomy, that is - I never minded dissections. Don't know why you think that last one ruined the day. It fit right into the lyrics, song, and was to the beat. Yes, that frog was very beat.

Love that song, sing it at Christmas in fact, ever since we picked up a cassette tape of Christmas carols and it was one there. Now I will be singing it all day, to my son's chagrin. Heavy on the grin.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDi

Now not only will I see frogs in my nightmares but now I have that song stuck in my head.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterErin

The last one I like for some reason.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterdez

Clearly frogs are challenging to do in 3-D cake... I'm just impressed (or is it shocked? amazed? stunned? horrified?) that there are SO MANY frog attempts out there, and that you have a stock of submissions large enough to fit a whole song to them. Wreck on! (singing JOOOOY to the world...)

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTwinMom

These remind me of a cake you can get in a lot of bakeries in Denmark - called a Kaj cake. Kaj being the name of a puppet frog here in Denmark - Kids show thing.

Anyway they are tiny little frog heads. Have a look

So, I'm sitting in one of the busiest computer labs in a well-to-do University, supposedly studying for finals and doing MAJOR Physics homework (which I hate).

Who knew "Physics" could make you laugh so hard that you almost pee your pants?! Now to duck behind the computer, since everyone of the lab occupants are staring at me.

Also, Note To Self: Apparently, it's not nice to hum a tune while everyone is quiet. I actually got Shushed!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAJ

What occassion calls for a frog cake, especially a DEAD frog cake??? D:

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermindy1

Whenever I hear this song from now I I'm going to be belting out "I FAILED BIOLOGY!"

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterGinger

There should be a Pulitzer prize for bloggers, and if there were, you should win it for: drum roll -

"straight hootin' chum of a pun"

Never better.

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCathy

at least the last one actually looks like a frog rather than a green concoction of a fevered mind (though one might consider an individual sick for the theme of the cake). At least the frog isn't giving birth, right?

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJack

@Jiloe -- Those Kaj cakes are cute. Singly or in pairs. In a mob like that photo in your link, they're rather ominous!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterkayk

I do not want to see the after effects (if you know what I mean) of so much green frosting.

Ick.

Thanks for the sing-a-long, though!

April 26, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterlisadh

Oh gosh! Toadally awesome post today Jen!!
