What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Sunday Sweets Does the Monster Mash

I was working in the lab late one night

(By Tiffany's Baking Co.)

When my eyes beheld an eerie sight

For my monster from his slab began to rise

(By Sara Konz of King's County Market, pic by Brian Dunnette)

And suddenly, to my surprise

(By bardiera using Confetti Cake's design)

 [He did the mash!]

He did the monster mash

[The monster mash!]

It was a graveyard smash

 [He did the mash!]

It caught on in a flash

[He did the mash!]

He did the monster mash

 (By Cake Girls)

The zombies were having fun

(By Whipped Bakeshop)

The party had just begun

The guests included Frank's bride:

(By Debbie Does Cakes)

 His mummy, and his son

(By Emi's Confections)

Out from his coffin, Drac's voice did ring

Seems he was troubled by just one thing

He opened the lid and shook his fist

(By Karen Portaleo of Highland Bakery)

"Whatever happened to my Transylvania twist?"

[It's now the mash!]

It's now the monster mash

(By Mike's Amazing Cakes)

[The monster mash!]

And it's a graveyard smash

[It's now the mash!]

It's caught on in a flash

(By The Cake Whisperer)

 [It's now the mash!]

It's now the monster mash

Now everything's cool, Drac's a part of the band

And my monster mash is the hit of the land

For you, the living, this mash was meant, too

When you get to my door, tell them Sully sent you:

 [Then you can mash!]

Then you can monster mash

[The monster mash!]

And do my graveyard smash

[Then you can mash!]

You'll catch on in a flash

[Then you can mash!]

Then you can monster mash!

October 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPamR

Hello Cthulhu!! Too cute!

October 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCaren

I love the Hello Kitty cthulu, especially because it looks to be accompanied by little bottles of sake and is for someone's 50th birthday. When I'm 50 I want one just like it.

Thanks for the ear worm song! I was grinning the whole time! Good for today, I'm working on the Halloween Party prep. Just a few locals come (200 at last count). These cakes were amazing. Puts me in the mood.

Hello Kitty Cthulhu for the win :-)

Here's my favorite recording of the song:

OK, it's not exactly the same song.

Nya nya Cthulhu fhondantagn! That's one mash I R'lyeh didn't expect to see...

October 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNyperold

Eeeeeeep! The cute little green cyclops monster looks like what would happen if James P. Sullivan and Mike Wazowski had a little monster baby... in a non-creepy way.

I absolutely love the Sully cake! He's so adorable . . . I could never cut that cake.

October 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLydia

October 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNikki

OMG, Groovie Ghoulies! Seriously, though, I love that you had Monster Mash themed Sweets. These are all great but the Dracula cake is awesome!

October 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterGoldie

I <3 Cthullu Kitty!

Nyperold, I your puns would make even Nyarlathotep groan! ;-D

Great presentation and take off of Monster Mash! Loved the Monsters Inc. cakes including the minature slice of cake.

October 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJoanie

Great cakes, but what impresses me is how well Jen has chosen them to go with the song. Must be lots of draculas, but this one looks exactly like he has risen from his coffin to gripe about his dance going out of style. Following one "monster mash" we get a surprise monster mashup - Hello CThulhu! Frank's mummy and son are right there on cue , in one perfect cake! It's those subtleties that impress me the most. A perfect treat for Sunday. Thanks, as always.

Fabulous cakes and hilarious write up!

October 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTanya

Oh goodness gracious, Hello Cthulhu! How adorable!

(Did you know that's actually a webcomic? Kind of funny, too...)

All I can say is...
Green.
Hello Kitty.
Cthuluhu.
In a purple dress.
WANT WANT WAAAAANT!
PS: I hate you, Catherine.

Thanks for featuring the non-scary version of Halloween. :)

October 14, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermillbrit

Is it just me or does that frankenstein cake resemble our president just a little...?

October 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTheo

Cake #2: most excellent use of airbrushing! Also, I think that's fondant-free...I love it!

October 14, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterbrenda

Wow! So, how much roughly does a cake like that Dracula cost?

October 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAlex

I want that mummy! I want it be MY mummy!

And love the Groovy Ghoulies! Flashbacks to childhood and riding the bus and being called Wierdo Wolfie (my maiden name was Wulf). This post was so much fun!

October 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTLC

Aww #3 is the most adorable monster ever! Of course you can't go wrong with a Hello Kitty Cthulhu or anything to do with Monsters, Inc

October 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDegera

I absolutely love the little cyclops! They should turn it into a stuffed animal monster; I would buy one for me and all the children in my family!

October 14, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJes

I just love that little cyclops guy so much! With his little hat and his little piece of cake! I want him! I would love him and squeeze him and call him George.

October 14, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterzoomom

Groovy Ghoulies for the win! I was a Groovy Ghoulie Groupie as a girl!

GREAT cakes...all of them. And the mummy cake is amazing! How they got the wrappings to look so "gauzy" is a feat in itself.

October 15, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSalannB

Those zombie cookies are awesome... looked on their website - and not available. Must have been a special order. Darn!

October 15, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTami

There's a Hello Cthulhu web comic out there folks...it's HILARIOUS. Use your Google Fu! (You can thank me later.)

October 15, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMindy

Awwww... Hello Kitty Cthulu!!! I wish I had a plushie of that!

October 15, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAmalya

Zoomom, I, too, want my own wee little cyclops George. Can we work out a custody arrangement?

October 16, 2012 | Unregistered Commenterlisadh

Paula Macleod made my wedding cake! How lovely to see her amazing sully cake on here :)

October 18, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLouise

It's not Hello Kitty or Cthulhu, it's Hello Kithulhu.
