Just Watch Out for the Buttercream Boulder

Now how cool is that: Lori over at Clever Cake Studio lives up to the name by providing a little marzipan bag for the famous switch! Really, I think more cakes out there should encourage us to recreate famous movie scenes before eating them.

Looks very cool! Although I am not sure I would have painted the vines on as this would be the place for some piping...
And Alix, as a HUGE fan of this film, there were no snakes in this part of the film. Just tarantulas earlier on. It could be nice to place one or two around for some extra decor!
Is it just me, or do those vines look like mold spreading out over the cake?

I didn't realize this was a Sunday Sweet and was repulsed by the "mold" that is all over this cake. My stomach still hasn't recovered...

I don't really like it. At first glance, it made me think back to those really old display cakes. Maybe it's the color or the vines, but something got me where I probably wouldn't eat it, lol. But it's still a great idea and talented piece.
Oh I like this. I do like the movie and game theme cakes, as long as they are well done of course.

Cute concept though, especially with the bag switch. Didn't he just fill the bag with dirt, though?
I was woken up this morning by a text message telling me to look at Cake Wrecks. This is rather awesome. Thanks! Also, good point on the vines. They don't look quite as bad in person, but yeah, next time, piping. :)
The bag o' dirt is my favorite also. We need more action cakes!

I, too, did not realize this was Sunday, and thought it was a mold covered cake. I was thinking maybe another display cake that had outlived it's welcome. It must look better in person! :)
I agree, flat vines = mold, but everything else is top-notch! And you had a terrific idea: Great Cake Movie Moments. My short list would include the Marilyn/subway scene (perfect for a sheet cake) the Thelma & Lousie cliffhanger (definitely multi-tiered) and something based on Invasion of the Body-Snatchers (cupcake pods?).
Looks cool, I obviously need to see the movie again so I understand why it looks that way!

Very cute idea! The vines need to be re-thought. Like some other viewers, I also thought it was another moldy cake at first glance. But what a creative idea...and the sand bag--genius! Can't wait to see the new and improved version!
How in God's name did she do those vines? That is an AWESOME cake and I'm not even a rabid ROTLA fan! I don't think the coloring is offputting at all, although I'd hate to cut into a cake that lovely I'd definitely eat it!
PS. PEOPLE. READ. Sundays are reserved for Sunday Sweets which are cakes exquisitely and artistically done. The opposite of cake wrecks.

i happen to like this cake. I like how on her blog she learns from her mistakes. She said in her blog that is gonna start taking a pipping class. she never once calls her self a pro. I happen to think she did a good job.

I agree with many previous commenters--the cake is clearly well-executed, and the bag-switch is a clever idea, but the vines give it an unappetizing look.
Gosh, I just LOVE coming to Cake Wrecks to find my comments critiqued and criticized (wink), because God knows I don't get enough of that from my teenagers. No worries fellow Cake Wreck fans; I humbly risk my dignity for the privilege of being among you.

Hey, I'm all for recreating famous movie scenes in cake. So, what's next on the list: George Romero, or early Peter Jackson? (I'd gleefully pay good money for a Meet The Feebles cake, just to watch the expressions of my guests when I served it at a birthday party.)
