What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

3 Wedding Wrecks That Completely Missed The Mark

So many wedding wrecks happen when a bride asks for a fondant design done in buttercream - but what happens when it's the opposite? LET'S FIND OUT.

Here's the buttercream design one bride ordered for her wedding:

She had a Fall theme, so her one stipulation: NO ROSES.

Which is kind of ironic, since the store-bought roses ended up being the best part!

Now if only the baker had purchased the whole cake from a store, am I right?

Oh! Hey! I just had a great idea:

1) Take orders
2) Give the orders to a real bakery
3) ???
4) PROFIT

Moving on....

You've got to love this gorgeous butterfly cake. GOT TO.

Adrianna M. certainly did, and ordered one just like it for her wedding - albeit with a few color changes.

o.0

Not sure which colors you asked for, Adrianna, but I'm seeing red.

And finally, Janice H. submitted her daughter's wedding cake with the plea, "Please! Stop laughing. IT STILL HURTS."

Yep, the wedding was just a few months ago, so let's try to be respectful of the lady's pain, ok, guys?
Ok. Here goes:

They ordered this style in purple, with gold ruffles:

So if you're wondering what the dirty spot near the bottom is, that's the "gold" part:

OUCH.

[biting lip]

[eye twitching]

I'm... I'm not laughing, Janice. I'm NOT.

I can't speak for the rest of these yahoos, though. Tch. SO RUDE.

Thanks to Patty S., Adrianna M., & Janice H. for the bridal tiers.

I was scanning through the pictures and thought of how horrible it is to be in the shoes of the bride and groom! The cake topper looks nice, if only the cake was better.

@Craig - to be even more precise, "Gerbera" daisies. The variety isn't related to the baby food company.

That baker should be ashamed....I hope they were able to refuse this and get a full refund....that is sad.

As for the wedding cake topper snobs, the chain and the ball was suppose to be a fun wedding. As for the butterfly cake. The baker called and asked permission to copy her cake and was giving the okay. The baker on the other hand stated they would make the cake the day before and made the cake that morning at her mothers house because she didnt want to go back to the bakery to get the origional cake that was made for the wedding and hoped that the bride wouldn't mind the change. The bride now knows that if she wants a real cake that she may have to spend the real money to get what she really wants. Sorry you only get married once. Something to talk about for the rest of your life.
Some bakers just dont need to be having a job if they cant do a simple request from a client.
Roses on a cake instead of leaves what a big mistake??? OOPS or did they once again not care or think that the bride would have never noticed?
Foam ruffles? Why not use shaving cream if you want to devistate the bride? not even the same color that she asked for. Why display a cake and say you can do it and then it turns into a total wreak.
Love cake wreaks.

That last one looks like Grimace! And I'm sure that grimace the bride did...!

The purple cake with ruffles - actually the cake formation looks amazing, but the purple is a little harsh and whatever that thing crawling up the side is...KILL it!

Oh, Sharyn, that's a lovely poem!

Janice: I"m definitely NOT laughing. You paid good money for that travesty. I'm wincing in sympathy, and sending you hugs from three years on.
