Memorial Pride
If tomorrow all the cakes were gone
I'd posted on this blog
And I had to start again
With just this patriotic dog:
I’d thank my lucky stars,
(o.0)
to be livin' here today.
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can’t take that awaaaaay.
And I’m proud to be an American,
where we're free to be wrecky!
And I wont forget the ones who died,
who gave that right to me.
And I gladly stand UP,
next to you and defend her still today!
'Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this laaaand,
God bless the U-S-A!
Thanks to Holly F., Dara M., Michael H., Claire Marie, Carolann K., Erica B., Kelley B., Pam L., & Rachel P. for the reminder.
*For you pesky optimists suggesting that the USU cookie cake stands for something else: it was found at a big box store alongside other patriotic cakes two days before Memorial Day, 2011. So... yeah, no. -john (thoJ)

I'm with sendingintheclowns...Bluebacca the Wookie it is. Though it's small, so maybe it's just the head OR it's an ewok... :-)
PS Glad you're over it! Enjoy your May day! :-) You must be up north. I went once in early May & it was weird for me (as a Texan). It was still chilly at night and people just starting their garden work & mulch. Down here, May is the tail end of it. Plants need lots of babying if you plant them past May 1st. You can forget it if it's past June 1st. You can give 'em all the babying in the world & they'll still be goners in August. And perennial bulbs don't like Houston much, either... :-( I'd love to have some tulips if I didn't have to dig 'em up each year & stick 'em in the frige just to make 'em think it's winter!
This. Was. Hilarious. The 0.o for the 'stars' of David (I think we must've added Puerto Rico or something, because there's more than fifty) got me and the rest...oy vey what a mess. I'm with @SusanM - Such a powerful holiday, and laughter I think, is the best medicine. Thank YOU!
Wow, how do you get USA wrong? Seriously, how do go f*&$ up the name of your own country?! I can see John Boehner raising this in Congress. Don't they send guys to Guantanamo for less? I exclaimed out loud when I saw that, and I'm Canadian.
Jen and John, please find applicable wrecks and do something similar for Canada Day July 1 for all your Canadian fans!
Blue dog poo
Star missed far
Dots dash dots
Flag swag sag
Letters fewer better
Best creme messed
Continent simply incompetent
Under such wonder
Possessive day confessive
I sang it too, Faith!
Thank you SO much for your Blog. It has never failed to make me laugh out loud!! I can no longer read the Blog at work. Laughing til tears flow, just doesn't seem appropriate in a Doctor's Office!!
I'm not sure which Patriotic Cake I love more the "Memorial's Day" or the "USU".
Thank you, Eileen. I thought I was going to have to read all the comments (despite a sinus headache) to find out what:
a white flower and banana
on a fluffy, mustard-colored background
with a blue snake crawling through it
had to do with Memorial Day. Even with your explanation, I had to look hard to see the poor, blind eagle.
(sigh)
just (sigh)
Considering the style of the logo on the USU cookie, it has to be a sports cake for Utah State University. The only thing could have done more wrong would have to have made the letters Weber Purple. The Wildcats and the Aggies are huge rivals!
That was an eagle?? I thought the flower just melted lol. Honestly still really just see a deranged flower melting down the thing. Sheesh they cannot top not spelling U.S.A. incorrectly.
Every time I hear or read "happy Memorial Day", I want to smack that person in the face.
It is not a happy day. It's disrespectful.
@KarateLady;
Oh, I'm up North, all right. Vermont. Specifically, Barre ("Granite Center of the World")(!). Winter seems to like to hang around for almost half the year, and it can get nasty.
But the Fall foliage season here is breathtaking; every year one can see-for a few short weeks-dozens of huge, sight-seeing tour buses, cruising along the Interstate highway as well as back roads.
Fall is my favorite season, but right now I'm just glad that I can forget for a while what comes after it.

That dog looks like Jake from Adventure Time if he ate some of that gum from Willy Wonka's factory.

I saw the eagle right away and actually thought that they did a decent enough job considering it's a CCC (patooie!). Oh, and I totally sang along.
Maybe my sinus drugs are creating hallucinations. 0.o
I really thought the eagle cake was fireworks till I started reading the comments. So I went back and looked..and it is an eagle, at least I think that's what it's supposed to be.
As a Canadian I was unaware that Americans celebrate Memorial Day by dying little dogs blue and impaling them with a mini flag pole. I guess it's true; you learn something new every day!
Just weighing in: I, too, saw the eagle with NO problem! But go ahead and nit-pick , if you must, about the Little Technicalities, such as the dark blue eye, and honey-gold feathers instead of boringly-realistic dark brown...
Really, other than those....!
And think about this: someone worked REALLY HARD creating that cake, and was likely SO HAPPY with the results, and PROUD, and..and...someone else probably BOUGHT it, and GAVE it to someone, all excited-like...
Wow; we really are a bunch of meanies...I feel like I could almost cry....
...but I can't stop giggling! =^~.~^=
Giggle. Someone was obviously deprived of an atlas or globe as a child.

That's not true!! Don't go around spreading malicious rumors! Sometimes, we use GREAT BIG dogs, and REAL flag poles.

I don't know, #7 looks suspiciously like France to me....
Is that one cake England???
the bird one isn't that bad i almost kinda like it. kinda like that cheesy movie that you watch whenever it's on because it's so bad it's good.
@sara;
"...that cheesy movie that you watch whenever it's on because it's so bad it's good."
Yeah-for me, that'd be the original "Halloween". The first time I ever saw it, I kept exclaiming involuntarily "You IDIOT!! STOP dropping the stupid KNIFE! STOP turning your stupid BACK on the stupid DOOR!!" It drove me nuts how stupid she was, even though I knew it was in the script--but you just get so caught up in the stupid moment!

We Piember? OK.
#7- Michigan and Louisiana had a baby? Missouri with a lot of growths?
