What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Beachy Keen

Ah, the heady, celebratory days of summer:

Say this with your teeth gritted, and you'll sound like Sean Connery.

Ohh, and while you're at it, repeat after me:

Ha! Although really it should sound more like, "Schuck it, Trebek."

(Don't get it? This should help.)

Where was I?

Oh, right.

So, school's out, and it's time for that quintessential summer activity:

Fun and sun at the beach!

Gee. Way to sell it, bakers.

Mmmm. Radioactive wasteland has never looked so...mildewy.

Uh, guys? Is this what I think it is?

Black "water," two plastic ships, found on the shelf in August of 2010...

OH NO YOU DID NOT, BAKERS.

(Yep, I really waited two whole years to post this wreck. The first person to cry "too soon!" has to eat it. :D)

Well, if an edible oil spill isn't your thing, then how about an edible hurricane?

 DOLPHIN!

(If you get that reference you win two gold stars and a 'nother cow.)

You know, on second thought, I think I'll just stay inside this summer. Seem safer that way. Y'all have fun out there, y'hear?

Thanks to today's wreckporters Hillary I., Audrey P., Kristen S., Jessica N., Hope R., & Thia S. for reminding me why I don't leave the house.

I like the hurricane cake!

The Beth and Ryan cake needs more tsunami debris.

Can anyone share with this poor deprived Canadian who can't access Hulu what the SNL clip was all about? ;)

Hmm shcool's out eh? Time for some summer school for that wreckerator lol. Hurricane cake that made me giggle.. I used to live in Florida right near a grapefruit grove so guess what went flying and hit cars every single time we had a hurricane? Can't stand the dreaded fruit before that happened and avoid it now more than ever.

Cake #5: What? Probably some local fisherman, out for a pleasure cruise, at night... in... oil-infested waters...

Cake #6: Little boy baby: "I wonder if she is using the same wind I am using."

Now, about that second cake, the one with "Schuck it, Trebek". I totally did not get it, so i hit the link. And it said you could only view the contents from the US.
Would you please put up a new link with the same contents that i can view from Sweden?
Pretty please?

Those plastic babies seem to be a regular occurrence around here.. I've never seen flip-flops bigger than babies, but that was before I saw that last cake..
The 2010 cake, is it really just half a cake or it's just my eyes?

Somebody get some Prozac for those swimmers in the third cake, 'cause they look a little blue.

The SNL 'Celebrity Jeopardy' parodies (there are several of them, since it was a recurring skit) are on Youtube in several incarnations, none of which of course are the actual video. One is an audio plus stills; several others are not-terribly-high quality videos of a TV that 'just happens' to be showing the video in question.

I also found what appear to be links to the actual videos by typing "SNL celebrity jeopardy parody" in a search engine. I didn't check out the links because I'm presently on a 3G link that makes 28K dial-up seem speedy.

Hopefully this helps those affected by hulu's provincialism.

I once almost had a literal "oil spill" cake when my cousin (who I think was 9 at the time) almost put way too much cooking oil in my 21st birthday cake. Luckily my mom noticed what she was doing before she made it a literal "cake wreck." We still joke about the "oil cake" and also about how she and I had a lot of fun putting LOTS of icing on it after it was baked!

It looks like there are two cakes representing disasters that could occur in coastal areas in these cakes, one a natural disaster and the other of the industrial sort.
