Jock Glitch
Wow, guys. Just...wow. How about that game yesterday, huh? Hoo boy!
Yessir, it would have been hard to predict THAT outcome!
Much like it would have been hard to write this post two days ago because I had to catch up on Downton Abbey urgent things to do on Sunday. Or maybe my power went out. It could have. YOU DON'T KNOW. [poker face]
Alright, look, it's long been established that sports fans speak their own language. And I'm not judging! Dude, I once wore a Bajoran earring and Starfleet insignia. TO HIGH SCHOOL. So believe me, I'm not gonna say word one if you guys want to call it the:
Or if you believe you've contracted:
(Just tell me there's no lancing involved. At least not the icky kind. Actual lancing with horses and knights and stuff would be kind of awesome.)
And I'll only snicker a little when you cheer on your:
"Fire at will, Number One! It's evacuating the rear exhaust ports!"
And hey, just because "The kich 15 good" means nothing to me, that doesn't mean I respect you sport people any less!
I'll just respond with a little "Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra" and we'll call it even!
After all, you guys have your "Patrits:"
And your "Gaints Beat Patroits:"
And we have Tribbles and Reavers and Sith lords. (Oh my!)
You score "Toachdowns:"
Or "Tochdowns:"
And we reconfigure the programming on our Kobayashi Marus.
Which, just for the record, is NOT CHEATING.
See what I mean? We're basically all the same! We all have our passions, and our quirks, and sometimes - SOMETIMES - we all make mistakes.
But seriously, guys, I have no idea what you're talking about. Can someone translate this into Klingon for me?
Hey Mary M., Melissa M., Lynn H., Dan H., Erin W., Amber G., Molly S., Jessica S., Sara J., & Janette R., lupDujHomwIj lubuy'moH gharghmey! So I hope you like sushi.

A few of my favorite things:
1) The green worms under the goal post;
2) That the field on the last wreck is only 40 yards long (total).
And that's why I feel like I've come home...that so many OTHER people got all the Star Trek (and others) references too...His arms wide indeed!
I proudly use a USB that has the Star Fleet emblem on it and I can wear it as a bracelet. And do. And I understand football.
I think I need a social life.
I still have my Bajoran earring and several Starfleet insignia pins. But the latex prosthetic Bajoran nose eventually disintegrated and had to be tossed out. Sniff.
Tochdown!
Just so you know Jen, there is *actually* a jousting show set to start on the History channel sometime soon - knights in armor on horseback galloping full-tilt and everything.
I thought you meant to say "Reaper" because of Supernatural, even though my brain offered Reavers as a substitute for the obvious reason. Fun fact: I ran into Jared Padalecki at a restaurant here in Austin. He really is that tall. Taller. Another fun fact: I still have the Vulcan ear tips I made from foil, masking tape, and acrylic paint in about 1971 - I wore them to a StarCon in Dallas. I was so cool - and I didn't even have a bow tie.
I LOVE Downton Abbey!! football? is that on??
I'm a bit nervous that I knew all the sci-fi references.... I didn't realize I was a sci-fi nerd! :)
I am so sad that someone said "Temba, his arms wide!" before me. But I am saying it anyway. Temba, his arms wide.
Now I have the phrase "Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra" stuck in my head again..... haven't had that stuck in my head since the last time I watched that episode lol
I can't teach Gilgamesh anymore because I get too torn up over Enkidu's death.
Okay, actually I can't teach Gilgamesh anymore because I accepted a position which precludes me teaching World Lit. But the first reason sounds better. Ludmila Zeman's illustrated adapatations of the epic (3 picture books) are too gorgeous. Recommended.
Today's Word of the Day for my students: Kafkaesque. I illustrated with a toy cockroach which was thrown at me by a child in Honduras. I remember being unfazed, because by that time I had endured months of roaches falling on me in the shower. It may be my favorite Word of the Day all semester.
A friend was watching the game with her two children. Her son 10, cheering for New York yelled, "GO GIANTS!" Her 7 year old daughter, not to be out-cheered, yelled in reply "GO PASTRIES!" True story!
OMG!! That "Superbowel" cake was the best. I'm still laughing about that one! Where the heck do you find all these crazy cakes? Do readers submit them or do you just live in an area where most people lack basic English skills? Either way, keep them coming! These are FABULOUS!!!
Smiles, Jenn @Misadventures in Motherhood
Love the geeky references! I guess I am going to have to add Downtown Abbey to my list of things to watch. Here's hoping I find it on Netflix so I can catch up to the lot of you.
I was laughing so hard at the geek references that I had to go back to enjoy the cakes!! Thanks for making geek cool!!
Jen, I love you. Your Trek reference made my day.
I see so many people spell oops "opps". I don't get how they mix up those two.
I love this blog. I'm so at home here.
First, I'd like to say that I am extremely jealous of the fact that you own a Bajoran earring. I've wanted one for years. :D
I'm also proud that I got all but one of the references. Go me! *silly grin*
Hmm... I wonder what a souper bowl tastes like...
Yay more Supernatural watchers. I love that show and as for these cakes.. I think the Winchesters should check out the wreckerators since I think half the time they are possessed lol. Gotta love their persistence though.
WHOO Just caught up on Downton Abbey myself (and by "caught up," I mean "marathoned it in two sleepless days.") AND I got the SciFi references. Because SciFi and period drama go together like... two good things that go together well.
Totally forgot it was the Super Bow(e)l. I spent Sunday cleaning and rewatching Downton Abbey.
I am strongly reminded of this comic:

Jen, seriously...you are blowing the lid off the illusion of USA being a first world country with spalling examples like that. So scary!
Loving the Trek references. <3
Made me think of the Picard Song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rYhRqf757I (You'll curse me for that later)
Super "bowel" will never not be funny.
Thank you for the Star Trek commentary - that made my day!
So where exactly did y'all get your Bajoran earrings? I grew up in a small town where the majority of my peers called it "Star Trak." There was no Interwebs yet, as I am old, so I had no access to alien accessories.
Hey, I LOVE the posts and ALL the geeky references (makes me feel like I'm in a cool club, for ONCE in my pathetic life!!) but - seriously, if it was ANYONE else but Kirk, we'd all be yelling 'Cheater! Cheater!' - I mean, for instance, had it been a Ferengi ... on a related note, my boss for some reason has a big problem with me keeping Ferengi female dress code in the office ...some people just don't play prop'ly :(
I love how stupid football fans can be.
My best Klingon translation of that last cake is: Du'ha'.
Just for the record, I have a friend whose Lhasa apso is named Kobayashi Maru.
Loved all of the Trek references in this post! There was probably a "make it so Number One" joke to be had around the Super Bowel.
After looking at these gems, it's cake-thirty!
For those of you not familiar when cake-thirty is, it's just past bacon-thirty
It was, too, cheating. But it WAS brilliant.
And the "Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra" episode made me go back and re-read Gilgamesh again- just for kicks!
What? So I'm a literate dork.
I not only read this and giggled at just about EVERYTHING, I read bits out loud to various family members and forwarded it to another geek. You (Jen) and all the commenters? You guys are AWESOME.
"Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra" I LOL'd!
Still giggling!
}:)
I want a Maru.
I thought maybe the "Souper Bowl" was a purpose but then realized it also said XLV instead of XLVI.
So...many...geeky...references! *squee*
As if you could get any more AWESOME...Downton Abbey FTW!!!! Did you see the SNL short on it? Didnt suck...
#3 and #5 remind me of antigens and antibodies
Super Bowel!!!! lolololol Can't stop laughing. I just got this big picture of someone sitting on the toilet with explosive poop comming out. lolololol The kind that tears the toilet up.
My mom made my first Bajoran earring and I wore it in high school (ca. 1995). I got my second at a SF convention in Vancouver (I still have both) I'd have invited Brent Spiner to dinner if I didn't think the friend who brought me would kill me before she keeled over from total embarrassment.
I sense many a kindered spirit in this wrectopia!
I don't know if you did it on purpose but there are a lot of misspelled words on those cakes. They are good but the spelling errors really detract from them, if they are errors.
I just want you to know, you are awesome. For the Bajoran earring idea that is. I'm totally stealing that for school Wednesday. I've already gotten tired of the Starfleet insignia, the Vulcan eyebrows, the pin reading "Can't cope, gone to Rivindel" and the family coat of arms.
I'll give you 6 points plus the extra point for the Reaver comment.
