What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Available Exclusively at the Geiger Counter!

When it comes to powerfully good cake, the choice is (nu)clear:

And here's some fuel for thought: this wasn't a special order. It was just out in the display case, on the off chance someone was having a nuclear power plant themed occasion worth celebrating.

HOW WELL THEY KNOW ME.

Thanks to Clare M. for the rad wreckporting.

If you turn it upside down it becomes very obvious.....two elephants having nosebleeds.

Maybe it represents Pele, the Hawiian goddess of fire and passion. She had a lot of lovers and that could be the explanation for the hearts coming out of a possible volcano. Pele lived in a volcano.

It looks like an interpretation of Gungor's "God Is Not a White Man"

Definitely beehives, with bees flying out of them.

Love is in the air,
Or is it free radicals?
Bake in lead aprons.

I want this cake! My daughter is a nuclear engineering PhD student (physics undergrad) and her fiance is a physics PhD candidate and this would make a PERFECT engagement party cake for them! I may print this and take it to the store for someone to replicate. Thanks Jen and John. :-)

This cake makes me sad. It reminds me of when I was uspposed to go to my former boyfriend's frat formal in SE Pennsylvania, and then Three Mile Island happened. Formal cancelled, we never went out again, years of longing.... sigh.

I found out that if you steal, I mean borrow, the nuclear inspectors hard hat and cut the N and U off, reverse them and stick them back on he becomes and Unclear Inspector. Good for a about a 1 day laugh.

@Christina - You made me double over from the pain of that pun. XD "The Power of Love," indeed.

It appears that instead of conventional alpha, beta, and gamma radiation, we've got Heart radiation - I wonder what the reactor core is made of to produce that? Perhaps the recently-discovered element Disnium - found in enormous deposits in Central Florida. XD

I love how simple this cake is. It looks like it's something the average person can make at their own home. It may not be the same theme but having ideas like this is something nice to have when you're picking the type of cake you would like.

Here in Oak Ridge, this cake would probably sell pretty well, considering.

It's too bad, it's actually a nice looking cake! Maybe someone ordered it and then bailed at the last second.
