They'll NEVER Notice
Unless someone takes a picture and posts it on the internet, of course - and what are the odds of that?
Heheheh.
Heh.
Heh.
Hoo! Yeah. Good stuff.
Don't worry, "Jett" - those poo-bats are so disturbing, no one will care whose cake this used to be.
Hey, bakers, ever get the feeling you forgot something?
How to make Al feel special:
And finally, how to totally freak out your boyfriend:
I can tell you that Isaiah was probably never happier to see a Cake Wreck in his entire life, though.
What's that? I haven't posted that cake yet? Oh ho ho! Well, my dear Wreckporters, then you'll just have stay tuned.

How could anyone forget about Al!! I like the "there, I fixed it" post as well. I think there is a site with that title now!
I LOVE the writing on the "afterthought" cake (up until the "and Al" part, of course.)
The "16" cake also has a backwards treble clef on the side...contrary to what several people said about "everything else being right on the cake". Makes me wonder if this wreck is a fake.
I don't know what kind of cake the 'Banding Together' cake is, but it looks tasty to me.
On the other hand, the green airbrushing and black banded poobat cake is just horrifying. Like rascalmom, I didn't recognize them as baseball bats. I wouldn't have gone near the thing even before the patch up job.
I'd guess the hot rod cake was a case where someone decided the image was perfect even if the text wasn't and told the bakery to just ice over Father's Day with Birthday. "He's not picky. He won't care. If it's cake, he'll eat it."
The best part about the cake with the naked sides is that the wreckorator didn't even have to bake it! That is a "Too-Tall" strawberry shortcake, it comes frozen in full, half, and 1/4 slabs. It's a super delicious cake, we use it in my departments catering section, it's our most requested retirement party cake. The only thing I hate about it is that it comes with the top perfectly iced and ready for decorating, but naked sides. Can't say as that I've ever thought about just leaving it that way.
The writing on Joanna's cake is beautiful! Now that I think about it though, I'm not even sure if "Joanna" is the name on the cake. So maybe a little TOO beautiful. Well...at least I can read the "and Al" part. I can't believe they actually got away with that! Or did they?
I love the cakes that you can almost hear the orders being placed...
"Let's see we need a birthday cake for my son... no... no... no....... Hey that's a cool car! Isaiah loves cars! But it says happy father's day... You can change the text? Ok then, we'll go with that design but I'd like it to say "Happy Birthday Isaiah." yes that's I-S-A-I-A-H. Thanks!"
WV. Extral: I'd say the word "Father's" cleverly hidden underneath "Birth" is just the Extral touch it needed, don't you?
I want to say that the way they "finished" the concert band cake is according to the manufacturers recommendations. They are supposed to trim the messy sides though and the shell border does looks amateurish. It comes in as a finished 1/2 sheet cake and the bakery is supposed to add borders. It is a European Layer Cake from The Original Cakerie. They taste delicious. The bakery I work for sells them.
The unfrosted side of cake #3 looks like a strip of bacon. Plus the "fixed" cake now says "Happy Birther's Day", which is even worse than the original in my opinion.
wv: dowberti - I dowBerti will have any desire to have a piece of Jett's cake.
So, anyone want to take bets on whether or not "Isaiah" dropped dead of a heart attack? O_o
"and Al" looks darker, probably because it was done with a different tip, and looking darker makes it look like mustard to me. hee hee.

"... Even if I can't turn out cakes as well shaped or decorated, you can be sure that the numbers will be the right way around, the font will stay the same and I won't be making any spelling/gramma/general text errors."
Um, it's spelled "grammar."
Now that is really funny!
Wow, did the store just print the wrong template or what?
My 2 cents:
1. Ceelabratin? Really?
2. Poor Al.
I think Al added to the cake himself.
I spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to figure out what was wrong with the band cake.
Yep. The above posters are correct.
The Original Cakerie puts out at least 4 types of those band cakes - strawberry, lemon, a tuxedo truffle mousse cake and a triple chocolate tiger cake. (The tiger is my favorite.) They are sold in my grocery store (being a supermarket cake decorator) as cake slices, baby cakes and bar cakes. When doing either the baby or bar cakes, all the decorator has to do is slap a border on and pack them up. They are very tasty - I've never had someone order them as a full sheet though - the boxes we get come prescored into 6 bar cakes. That border is quite sloppy though.
Happy 16 cake - thanks for sharing your story! It was a beautiful cake (I didn't notice the backwards clef - guess my mind just thought "S" and stopped!) Thanks for putting up with all of us! Next time, save a piece?
I think there are too many people sniping at the grammar, spelling, and syntax of other posters these days. Come on, folks, this is supposed to be a fun site.
That concert cake is a "cakerie cake" from canada, I work in the bakery at HEB Grocery and we get that cake shipped in. it's usually not iced on the sides, and not on the top either. on the top it's just a fresh whipped cream layer on the cake, they just added the borders and writing and red blobs.
love this blog (:
i love the birthers day cake!
The "16" cake also has a backwards treble clef on the side...contrary to what several people said about "everything else being right on the cake". Makes me wonder if this wreck is a fake.
Being the cake maker, and that it was for my daughters Sweet Sixteen I promise it was not a fake. I had never even been to this site till after I made the cake.
Thank you
Aindrea
OMG I just stumbled across this blog and have spent two hours trawling through pics and comments and LMAO :)
Thank you Jen for this feast of fun - and for making my amateur cake decs look sooo much better
Claire
The Band cake is an Original Cakery Strawberry Shortcake Cake. It is intended to be sold without icing on the sides. The decorator simply put trim on it and decorated the top. Perhaps they should not have trimmed the cake; but they did not forget to ice the sides.
RE: the cake with the red filling the band cake). At the local bakeries here, anytime they make a cake with a fruit filling like that, they never ice the sides. I asked why once and they said because the icing just slides off and looks sloppy - it won't stick to the fruit filling. So the baker didn't forget to ice the sides of the cake. Most likely, that was done intentionally.
Seriously, I thought Jen would know that.
einahsketch: Agreed. Up until Al, that piping is beautiful!
I have finally read this ENTIRE blog. MANY nights of staying up too late and laughing!
I <3 CW!
My hubby and I are now on the hunt for wrecks to send in..shouldn't be to hard since we live in backwater, Georgia!
Wreck on!
OMG. POST WRECK!
Grammar and spelling are not my friends today :|
Being a music major, I noticed before anything that the treble cleff on the "backwards 6" cake is backwards as well.
I know whats WRONG with the concert band cake!!!! They forgot to ice the side of the cake!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol! there you go avi5732....
I had ordered the band cake for our 25th anniversary (someone else posted it here). It was in the box, so I did not notice the "naked sides" until we took it out of the box at the event. I was mortified. I brought in a picture of the cake to show the mistake to the store where it was made. Not only did they refund the cost of the cake, but they gave us a coupon for another free cake. No, it was not bacon, but strawberry filling. It was delicious!
The mechanic in me says that was a bad picture of a hot rod. The front wheels look like they are going in 2 completely different directions, eek broken tie-rod! Depth perception fail?
I would have had a fhitsit if that correction was given to me by my S.O.
To Sixxlet:
I think we understand that the cake is not supposed to be frosted on the sides, but it doesn't change the fact that it looks like a wreck!
OMG! I truly don't know whether to laugh or to cry at poor Isaiah's cake!
Happy Birther's Day, indeed!
o_O
So the "And Al" cake was my at the rehearsal dinner for my oldest brother's wedding. I took the photo of the cake but really didnt notice it and I dont think anyone did until I started going through them later on. The catering hall was smart to bring it out and then take it right away to be cut up. LOL.
Al is the oldest of the 5 of us and we can all tell you Joanne is really the one who needs the luck :)
I just want to say that the concert band cake without iced sides was more than likely ordered that way. I highly doubt it was a mistake, because of the bottom piped border.
Having worked as a decorator I can tell you that people order strange things sometimes for sure. I can imagine that that the concert band was ordered by a group of older people? or someone who didn't like icing as much as they like the rest of that tasty looking layer cake.
Okay first of all I have not read though all of the comments (theres always so many) but I just want to correct you all on the 'Concert cake' cake. Its not bacon on the sides, its not uniced. That cake is a decorated 'Cakery' Cake, its a torte like layer cake made of layers or white cake, strawberry preserves/filling, and buttercream/white chocolate. Each bakery doesnt 'make' those cakes, it is a premade product that any main stream bakery can order in frozen and cut to order, its usually just cut in squares and decorated with just a whipped cream border. I cant comment on the wording because I cant really see it too well in this picture, but the cake is not suppose to be iced on the sides. :)
OK. Honestly, I haven't laughed this much in a very long time. Everything square inch of this blog makes me crack up. That being said, sometimes the comments are soooo serious and seem out of place. To this, I only want to say that the concert cake is what is called a Victoria Sponge cake. Typically the sides are not frosted.
But who cares if it's a pre-made, factory turned out cake decorated by a professional. The point is, it looks terrible with the piped frosting along the base of the cake which only adds to the silliness of it all.
The real name is Strawberry Shortcake Cakery Cake, not Victoria Sponge cake.
I know this is a late comment, but I feel I have to defend the band cake. It's not a cake that the bakery baked. It's a brand called "cakerie" from a bakery in Canada that comes in frozen as a half sheet that decorators get to cut up and package in pieces, usually. Sometimes customers request that cake instead of regular cake because it is delicious, moist, has awesome fillings, and uses real whipped cream. However, when decorators cut it up and package it, the sides are NEVER iced. So, unless a customer requested icing on the sides, chances are it's not going to get iced. As a non-wreckerator, I would always explain this to my customers, but we know that is not always the case. And most of the customers declined icing on the sides when I offered them, too.
Of course, if the customer requested icing on the sides and they didn't ice it, then I would have to concede it is a wreck. :)
Kelly
That 'uniced' cake is actually a strawberry torte cake that is usually iced with just whipped cream on the top . Getting it in a sheet cake like that is a special order and you never ice the sides!
I MADE SOME COOKIES I want them to be on sunday sweets. If they are please mention my snail Stickeyhead. He eats cake and frosting and cookies and cheesecake and funnel cake. I love him very very much. They are fondant free and they are awesome. Also mention Mr. Smooshey, my stuffed pink unicorn pillow.
as long as they are under 4 years old, they will never notice. haha.
Poo bats are very funny. Just poo icing is funny on a cake. I've never had acake wreck on my birthday (burf day), but I've wanted one...
So not only is the teenager turing 1'6' but they also failed on the treble clef being backwards...maybe the backwards 6 was so no one would notice the treble clef.
What's with all the stars on scewers on cakes? It just looks like scewered stars.
