Sunday Sweets is my weekly NON-Wreck feature, the better to show how wrecky the Wrecks really are.
I'd like to say today's post will remind many of us of our childhood, but if you're like me you were probably watching some of these into your teens. (I especially loved Animaniacs in high school. Aw, great, now I'm going to be humming "Pinky & the Brain" all day. Dum da dum da dummm...)
First up, ZOINKS! It's Scooby-Doo!
(By the Cake Fairy, found by Margery S.)
And the Smurfs, too!
(By Nati's Cakes, found by Dorothy.)Go Go Gadget Cake!
(Hand-painted by Denise at Cakes for You.)
How about a little classic cartoon violence? You know you miss it!
(Made by Karina's friend Cathy, who is not a professional!)Now, some of you are going to take issue with the fact that this next one is a wedding cake, and therefore potentially worthy of ridicule. Still, it made me laugh, so I'm posting it. So there.
Cowabunga, dude! They even made a female Mutant Turtle for the bride topper - that, or they stuck a wig on an action figure - I can't quite tell. Either way, it's hilarious, and nicely done.
(I've had that pic on my hard drive forever, and have no idea whose it is. E-mail me if you know.)
Even ThunderCats gets some representin', and by Snarf no less!
(By Have Your Cake and Eat It, found by Laura.)And lastly, you know how I've been badgering y'all to send me a Snorks cake? Well, my lovely Wresksistant Anne-Marie took it upon herself to surprise me with this last week:
Once I stopped laughing, I had to ask her how she even did this. You've got to understand: Anne-Marie is the best cook I know, but she's not a decorator. So considering she free-handed and decorated this using nothing more than a few tubes of store-bought icing, I think it's pretty darn good. And sweet, since she just wanted to ensure the Snorks were present in today's post. I just wish she didn't live on the other side of the country, so I could have had a slice. [crossing arms & pouting] Hmph.
Of course, AFTER Anne-Marie made that one, Pennie K sent in a more official Snorks Sweet:
She tells me she made it for her own birthday. Isn't it cute?
And yes, I AM happy now, thanks for asking.

The only bad thing about the Sunday Sweets feature is that, if they were placed in front of me, I wouldn't be able to eat it because they're too pretty!
(Also, I wouldn't be able to eat Scooby.)
I'm still waiting for a cake with one of my favorite cartoon of the 80's, Muppet Babies. They were my top favorite along with Thundercats and Ninja Turtles.
the snorks always bring back a fond memory... when for some reason i was playing with a stuffed snork by the toliet and *kerplunk!* that was the end of that snork... i guess it was destiny to end back up in the water.
TMNT Wedding is fantastic. Probably one of the best wedding cakes I've seen.
It's all my childhood friends! :D Well, except Thundercats and Snorks... those were before my time... But the TMNT cake! Egads! If I thought I could get away with it, I'd get one for my wedding! :D
They're Kinky and Deranged
Kinky and Deranged
One's into leather
The other likes pain
They're dirty little mice
They're into every vice
They're Kinky --
They're Kinky and Derange, 'range, 'range, 'range, 'ranged!
I LOVE that Tom and Jerry Cake. So much! The TMNT one is creative, but I think it's a little bit sad that it was somebody's WEDDING cake. (sigh) I always love the Sunday Sweets edition...
That TMNT wedding cake is...wow. I want to meet those people.
Theses cakes are so amazing! Takes me back
Umm... I guess I am the only one who cares but most of those characters are from the 70s. Scooby Doo actually late 60s. Tom and Jerry 40s. Truly cool site, though. Sorry to be a hater.
Ah, those were the days! I actually watched Smurfs most of Saturday!
Jabberjaw, predictably, gets no respect.
I LOVE THE TMNT CAKE!!!
I love the TMNT cake, even more so because it is a wedding cake.
I think that is the best use of tiers I've ever seen.
I'm going to send this to my sons and tell them that when they find a girl who will let me have a TMNT cake at their wedding - THAT'S the girl to marry!!
You teased us with an Animaniacs reference and then....NOTHING! No Animaniacs cake at all! Wait, what decade were they from? :D Oh wait, the 90's. Well now you have to do a 90's cake series!
Hmm, the Ninja Turtle cake is very well done, but as wedding cake? Grounds for an immediate postponement of the ceremony until there's been some serious discussion about other design/decorating decisions regarding artwork, drapes, carpet, etc!
My son is obsessed with Tom & Jerry. He would love that T&J cake!!!
Oh, those are all so cute...I just wonder about the wedding cake...what kind of bride would allow a cake like that ? If it were a groom's cake, OK but the wedding cake ? So wrong !
LOVED Pinky and the Brain. It was the only cartoon my dad laughed at as much as I did. I also agree with whoever posted that Cartoon Network as gone down hill since dropping the Smurfs.
Hooray that Snorks were found and that you, Jen, and all of us 80s children can rest better! :) I can't believe someone was so "cowabunga dude" over Ninja Turtles to have it as a wedding cake, but then again, we all have our obsessions!
I don't remember the snorks, but Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain had such great theme songs....whatever happened to them??? How could they be replaced by some of the stuff I am subjected to via 3 kids????
Sherry
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Scooby Doo -- I even went to see both of the live action movies at that theater when on opening weekends (would've been better off watching old shows at home!) So I adore the Scooby cake and want one for my birthday!
Actually really sad when there wasn't an Animaniacs cake. You got my hopes up. :(
To all of those people saying "why did Cartoon Network drop the Smurfs????" They technically didn't. They're on Boomerang now. Along with the Snorks, Scooby Doo (and some with Scrappy too... ugh), the Jetsons, Flintstone, Amazing Chan, Superfriends, Hong Kong Phooey, Jonny Bravo, Swat Katz, Tom & Jerry, and well you get the idea. No, I'm not a rep for CN, I'm just a cartoon freak who's had Directv for a while now.
Anyway, I second whoever said 90s cake theme! I would love to see a Doug cake, Rocko's Modern Life, Hey Arnold, Batman, X-men (it won't be legit unless it has Gambit), Gargoyles, and of course anything Animaniacs related (that includes spin offs). Oh and Tiny Toon Adventures too... but I doubt you'll find any of that.
Where in the world is a Carmen San Diego cake? Has there been one already?
I have had an aweful day today. I have been sick, and all of that junk. So then I log onto Cake Wrecks, looking for a good time, and you make fun of pinky and the brain. Thats just the icing on the cake "Bu dun ts". I named my fish after them when I was 7 i hope you know!
I "LOVE" cakewrecks more than anything in the wrold! I have even purposely made cakewrecks for my co-worker who shares the love of cakewrecks.com [Fireworks] However, I find it sad that real cakes rarely find their way into Sunday Sweets. No, frosting isn't as pretty or easily shaped as edible clay..er..I mean fondant, but that's what cakes are - fluffy sweetness with frosting on top.
I'm starting to think that maybe you just like cute clay figurines and you don't really like cake? I'll let it slide though because you're hilarious, but please, for "cake's" sake...add some real cakes.
I love the TMNT cake! Awesome.
I saw Snorks on TV a few weeks ago. Apparently some channel actually shows that cartoon.
Awesome cakes indeed, but where's Jem?! You asked for GI Joe in the previous post, but not her! Or He-man (he hasn't made a comeback right?), or She-ra.....oh man....the memories.....
....and The Jetsons.....oh man!
Omg...the prospect of a Ninja Turtles wedding cake like that just MIGHT make me want to get married just to have it. That is so awesome.
Just going through the archives and came upon this post! Awesome!
I gotta say, I need to recommend the Ninja turtle cake to my fiancee'!
As an uber nerd myself, I have vital input! (Right?) Despite there being a female turtle for a brief time, that figure atop the cake is definitely the Donatello action figure with a wig and white bandanna! You can tell by the tone of green the body is.
*Ahem, I'll get back in the corner now!*
I am 11 and i luv most of those shows so they arent just 80s
