What's a Wreck?

A Cake Wreck is any cake that is unintentionally sad, silly, creepy, inappropriate - you name it. A Wreck is not necessarily a poorly-made cake; it's simply one I find funny, for any of a number of reasons. Anyone who has ever smeared frosting on a baked good has made a Wreck at one time or another, so I'm not here to vilify decorators: Cake Wrecks is just about finding the funny in unexpected, sugar-filled places.

Now, don't you have a photo you want to send me? ;)

Why Football & Bridal Showers Don't Mix

The happy couple-to-be chose his (yes, his) favorite football team's colors for the bridal shower cake, resulting in...well, this:

I'm not sure which is worse: the color scheme or the smashed floral squid-like creature lurking on top, its rosy tendrils poised to snag any unsuspecting guest who strays too close. ("Oh, look, hon! They spelled it right and everythin...AAAUGGH! It's got me! Getitoffgetitoff -HELP!!!)

Despite my dizzying array of sports knowledge, I'm afraid I don't know which football team out there dresses in orange, purple, and pale puke green. Any ideas, Ashley W.?

OMG - I think I actually know who this belongs to? I had a high school friend who both her and her hubby went to Clemson University... their entire wedding theme was purple and orange. It was probably one of the most ridiculous weddings I've ever seen.... not to mention, hideous, even for a few die-hard fans!

That cake is probably supposed to be orange and blue - Go Broncos!

(Bronco fans would totally go for this - perhaps the "fan in the can" is getting married again?)

Could it be basketball? The Phoenix Suns Basketball team is definitely Purple and Orange.

Upon seeing the cake, without reading any of the text I had two impressions: It seems to almost cause one of those optical illusions where it looks like it's spinning and that it was a Phoenix Suns cake.

Maybe it's one of those things where you're supposed to stare at the cake for 30 seconds and then look at a blank white wall to see what the cake's colors actually are.

nope, i tried that, it didn't work.

and i have to admit...i LIKE the color combo. but i also have a unhealthy interest in bright clashing colors. i'm sure i've worn outfits and even hair colors that would make that cake look tame.

WV= bukuker HAHAHA! you either get it or you don't is all i'm sayin....

Having seen this colors in many monsterous incarnations, I would say this is a University of Florida Cake. Orange and Blue... and that dark blue that you really can get to without makingyour frosting taste like printer's ink... Many Florida Groom's Cakes bear this nauseating combination.

purple and organge were my high school colours--The Danville Ironmen, in Danville PA. The purple and orange are meant to represent cool and molten iron respectively.

Danville Ironmen from Danville, PA!
When we were kids we HAD to have Converse "Chuck Taylor" sneakers in orange & purple, so you could wear one of each to the football games! Ok for sneakers, maybe not so much for a cake-but it's memorable for me.
